Glad to hear it's fixed, at least you know it's done and you'll have another 20 years out of it. [

Must admit never noticed ...... there must be only a handful of rubber out there now ... when did they replace it?

ISTR not until the 968 came along was the design of the clutch and flywheel package updated dramatically? However that is no real benefit as the dual mass flywheels in the 968 can go up the creek anyways. It must be about 5 years ago now that the replacement clucthes became spring centred.

I believe the turbo clutch disc was never rubber-centered while the S2's originally was.
The dual mass flywheel is a poor piece of design.
We were discussing about DMF with the machinist who prepared my engine block and FWIW he said he ended up soldering one together on a F355 and that the car has worked perfectly well this way.

I'd always assumed that the rubber clutch was for NVH reasons, but having the modern version on the S2 (and I believe on the 944S but I haven't checked the part numbers on the paperwork from the previous owner) I didn't notice any negatives.

My 944S had a rubber clutch - which gave up the ghost on the Paris Peripherique about 5pm one Saturday returning from Angouleme area. Car was still driveable - but between 2000-3500RPM vibration and heat through the gearstick was horrible, so driving in the slow moving traffic was interesting (to put it mildly). Anyway, she got us home, but the subsequent visit to my (then) local Porsche specialist left me with a bill for just over £1000.
Much happier with the 968 tip - but I guess the box will eventually give problems - with a consequent very large OUCH!
