Yorkshire Porsche Festival - 6 August

I've just read in the R7 August events update that no picnic food can be taken to the Festival of Porsche. Instead, all food and drink must be purchased on site. Seriously?

Having a picnic has always been part of this type of event so I wonder whether those who made this decision have actually thought about how it is going to be implemented, how members attending might react to it and how this could reflect on the Club Nationally and Regionally? For example:

• How will members (other than R7 members who read the events update) attending be made aware of the decision? In any event, telling people that no picnic food is allowed won't necessarily stop them bringing it.
• Will cars be inspected as they arrive to ensure they don't contain contraband food? What if they do - will they be turned away or will the food have to be thrown away?
• Will there be regular monitoring of the parking area to ensure that any members who do manage to smuggle food into the event aren't consuming it? If they are will they be told to stop eating their own food, will it be confiscated or will they be asked to leave the event?
• Does The Motorist have the capacity to handle the queues to buy food and drink that will inevitably occur and areas to eat and drink?
• When people realise that they have to buy food and drink from The Motorist, how will the exit queues be managed?

From the first announcement of this event I was personally unconvinced that it would match the success of previous events at Harewood House and Lotherton Hall. The decision about food and drink reinforces that view and could damage event's reputation that has been built up over 25+ years.

There is absolutely no mention of a prohibition on picnics on the Porsche Club GB web site where this event is advertised and tickets are purchased, unless I am missing it?
As there is no mention about this when purchasing tickets my view is that no such rule exists and therefore if people wish to bring a picnic then they should do so.

I have to say, I saw this and thought "what the hell are they thinking".

I understand that the ticket includes either a bacon butty or hog roast, so they already have money off people for food, so why should they care.

Most of these style events are picnic events, to only be saying this now is somewhat away with the fairies.

I realise this has been done centrally so am not aiming sharp sticks at the CoG. I blame the council []

I agree entirely.

The Motorist is a great venue for car meets. It doesn’t however possess much grass. For me one of the most enjoyable parts of the ‘festival’ is sitting by the cars with a Picnic and talking to new and old faces passing by.

I suspect now it will be a bunfight for a seat inside (away from the cars) and a long queue for drink, where hopefully I might see a friendly face!


I am curious to see how this goes but I might need convincing in 2023!


I don’t blame the COG at all, just the council snubbing out Lotherton. We never knew how good we had it!

The club itself seems very out of touch with more and more things these days and this decision on the picnic is crass and ill thought out especially in times when some are having to tighten spending.

As Ian rightly said its so enjoyable to sit by your cars, chat and eact a picnic. I also worry that all those neutrals and children who came in the past simply won't be there to enjoy the day and dream of owning one in future...surely the club have scored an own goal on this too!? I personally felt a change of venue was needed to keep it fresh but not to sacrifice these nice aspects to the day. Its also a saturday which may too reduce numbers over the sunday. Its shaping up to be a damp squid...hopefully not.

I for one will be taking a picnic and I suggest if enough do then there is little they can do.

I noticed the Motorist advertising our event the other day on Facebook, they also never mentioned no picnic's in their own advert.

I would assume that this is the Motorist's stipulation rather than the Club, unless someone in the Club has really taken leave of their senses.

I have just received an email from PCGB Towers stating that "Please note that any food not purchased from the onsite vendors is not permitted at this venue. Picnics will not be allowed at this event" The website has also been updated with the same rider added to the web page.

When I booked this I was unaware of this restriction so are PCGB Towers going to re fund us our monies? Think not.

So how is this going to be enforced? are Truffle Pigs going to employed to root out contraband food? perhaps they will overfly the event with illegal sandwich spotting drones? mmmm wonder where GPDR would stand on that one.

Or is this all a devious plot to get this event relocated in future to the Bicester Heritage site?

Sad to say that I agree with the concerns expressed. I haven’t felt comfortable about the takeover of The Yorkshire Porsche Festival right from day one. We will have to make the most of it but I anticipate a deluge of flack

Wentworth Woodhouse perhaps? It has simply acres and acres of lush green grass and a pretty cool old mansion to have a wander around in too.

There have been some unfavourable comments about the upcoming Festival of Porsche Yorkshire.

What needs to be realised is that this event, organised and run by PCGB Events team at the Clubhouse together with The Motorist, is not and was never intended to be a replacement for the sadly defunct Lotherton Hall event.


This festival is not going to be an event where you sit around your car having a picnic. That has recently been made clear. However, The Motorist venue is a lot more than just a field and their facilities and what they are providing are to be appreciated. The Events team at PCGB Clubhouse have put a lot of time and effort into this and hopefully it will be a great success in its own right.


We do apologise if some publicity for this event suggested that is was a replacement for Lotherton.

Please let’s be generous in our thinking about others and be grateful that people are willing to try so hard to create this event. Hopefully everyone who goes will have a great time.

With events that have been changed like this, it seems that some people wish to put the mockers on it before sampling. Surely its best to attend with an open mind and then report back so the organisers can then rework if needed for the next time. As for the picnic, at least it stops the Champagne bottles been left all over the place, plus it’s Yorkshire so the food is not extortionate it just may not run to Gravlax and Caviar.
As has been mentioned there is a lack of lush picnic inducing grass at the Motorist so the blanket my need a bit of packing under it to help with comfort.

Quite reasonable in Porsche circles . One thing though, as with all venues since the coffee culture has grown in recent years, if you want a beverage then a flask may be the order of the day. Although the coffee is reasonably priced and of good quality the time taken to brew each individual one is mind numbing. Queues will be sizeable.

For all those attending The Yorkshire Porsche Festival, please be aware that there is a very high chance that there will be speed cameras in the area on Saturday, the last 4 times that I have recently been to The Motorist they have been active within the area moving location during the day. They are normally around the Cawood area, so if you are traveling from the A1 or from Cawood please be speed aware. Wouldn't want this to spoil a good day.

No Porsche owner or drivers should be speeding in the first place & if duly court doing so & then it's there fault & deserves to be fined for the errors of there ways, whilst attending your event.
