I had a great time last weekend.
My 15 year old son and I had both got the week off (while my wife was back at work [
]) and we had a mini road trip planned to the Yorkshire Dales.
Last year we did the North Yorkshire Moors and Blakey Ridge which was amazing, loved it.
This time, thought we'd post some pictures of our time away.
We headed off from Nottinghamshire conveniently up the A1 for a while until turning off just before Wetherby.
Headed towards Harewood House and turned right before stopping outside Yorkshire Classic Porsche for a gander around what they'd got in.
Carried on through Otley, Ilkley and Skipton before our planned pitstop at Settle.
We actually stopped next door at Giggleswick at a lovely little old pub called the Black Horse.
If anyones been here, or goes here, I found trying to get in the carpark between both walls quite a challenge.
One which I gave in on, and parked round the corner outside the church
The landlord, Vinnie was really welcoming and very light hearted.
I asked if I was being optimistic trying to get in the car park and he immediately turned round to the guys in the tap room and said "...anybody want to buy a Porsche? This guy can't drive his " ...he says there's a couple of Range Rovers in there now, its easy enough, and he was right, there was.
We had a giant Yorkshire Pudding filled with Roast Beef, it was just what we needed before cracking onward to Ribblehead Viaduct.
The roads out of Settle and up to Horton in Ribblesdale and to the viaduct are great. A drivers dream.

Continuing on towards Hawes, the roads flow nicely again.
We had booked in at the Stone House Hotel for bed and breakfast.
I have to add, within 10 minutes of arriving, we wished we had booked for another night.
What a fantastic place, and so welcoming. The place is immaculate.
We settled down with a pint and a cake before having a walk in to Hawes and then back to the Hotel for a couple of hours of snooker.

Returning back at night
Following morning after breakfast...
...we went down the road to Hardraw, through the Green Dragon pub to see the waterfall behind.
Then got back in the car and headed up the Buttertubs Pass.
Amazing bit of road and scenery, snow either side of the road, and some deep drops too!!
I'll try and post the GoPro footage of this, I should have stopped to take pics.
At the end of the pass, we turned left and headed up Tan Hill towards the Tan Hill Inn, the highest pub in Great Britain.
The fog descended when we got near to the top and I could hardly see a hand in front of me!!
Now where did I leave the car? ....
Then headed back down the freshly gravelled roads [] for about 15 miles instead of going the way we got up there.
Headed back home, back in one piece.
Car took it all in its stride, naturally.
Had a great time, and will definitely be going back.
