would you buy a 944 unseen & pay up front ?

Lo all, I phoned a seller re a 944S2 today and he tells me he has had what he thinks 'might' be a very good offer from a buyer in Scotland to pay up front and have the car shipped to him up there. He claims he isn't sure so has left it on E-Bay ( where it is now)

Either the seller is spinning me a yarn or someone is very confident to buy an S2 unseen and with engineer or local enthusiast checking it first. I mention it as if you are a club of forum member then since I live literally up the road , I could have checked it out for you if asked []

I cant believe anyone serious enough to want a 944 that much doesn't read this forum !

Absolutely m8ee ! , the obvious potential pitfalls are in order of likelyhood

1) A car is simply mis described and a bag of tom tit
2) A seller is bogus and the car is either a ringer or doesnt exist
3) The shipping agent is bogus and 'takes your money'
4) The agent damages your car on route and you have to sue him or wait for a claim

Dont get me wrong this car may be superb and the seller lovely, i have no idea but I'm just amazed in this day and age if any Pork buyer would do such a thing [8|]

Sounds very fishy to me. Buying a car unseen is a complete no no for any sane person. Always worth paying a couple of quid to have someone look at it if you don't know what you are looking for. I am more than happy to have a look for anyone up here and can provide a detailed report on what you need for not a lot of cash!

My comment did not relate to your post, it was directed to Mas......

People are scammed into releasing the car to unknown transporter, after which it disappears, later the "Bankers Draft" turn out to be worthless.

I'd never be brave enough but I know a guy who bought a ropey Silver Rose unseen for a pittance from Ebay and had it delivered to his home. He then sold it on at a small profit to a racer who had it converted to a full on racecar (Silver Roses are ideal because of the non sunroof shell) and it went on to win its championship the very next year.

I'd still never do it myself - too much scrap fodder out there these days []

I bought mine unseen but researched the car on here and found out alot about it before .Also sent a family member round on the quiet to have a look and check car existed.
Gut feel and common sense .

I'm most definitely "not in my right frame of mind then"[]!! I'm not taking the pi55 out of anyone here,that's never my intention. What i find hilarious is the fact that i bought my 944T from Bonny Scotland on a whim without ever seeing it , meeting the vendor , paying for it all up front (4.2k), not hearing from said vendor for about three days, everyone on here thinking (and quite rightly so) that i had been "bolted up" and, finaly,after about a week, I woke up one morning and looked out of the window to see a lovely Black 944T sitting on my drive with a Jock fast asleep behind the wheel [8D][].
Someone on here thought i had shown "amazing levels of trust" whilst others thought i was "off my rocker"!! You decide! I thought it was bloody funny []!! That's what i meant when i said someone ought to find my subject related posts of about a year or so ago for an interesting read!

My last 4 cars I have bought before seeing them, not from private individuals however.
I always get them to detail any flaws in the paint, mechanicals or service details.
When I bought the S2 they outlined all defects and I was not disappointed when it arrived on a trailer, as described!

I also just sold my good friends Audi RS4 for him, the private buyer sent a deposit of £250 to secure the car without a viewing then paid the other £10k 3 days later and collected it later in the week.
All done through the Audisrs forum, slightly risky on his part but we were confident in the car.

Some things feel right some don't....for me anyway!

I bought my bicycle unseen off ebay last year. It was a terrible picture but I could tell the seller didnt have a clue what he had.. Even had mudguards and carrier on it... I took delivery and the bike was superb once I got it back into rude health !

I wouldnt do it with a car as I dont have the b***s for it []

One of the best cars I have ever bought was unseen off ebay, car in Brighton me in Inverness, 328i touring flew down that week with a mate and took in the silverstone classic and Donnington collection on way home.

Mind you got stopped by police 15 miles after taking collection, car came up as not insured, had sorted that and tax before leaving Inverness so had all the paper work, gave them a laugh as thought me crazy to go that far for and oldish beemer
