I bought one for my 1986 944 Turbo on Friday, from Porschapart. It arrived today. Its in great condition with very little wear. I paid £70 for it and after shipping the total was about £80. Check out Ebay as they have a shop on there. They also do reconditioned arms with new ball joint pressed in for £170+VAT. ETA: Hartech also do recon ones for about £200. If your handy with tools, then Rennlist (Rennbay) do a kit that has had some good results. HTH.

Hi, I need to replace a ball joint on my 86 944 which as I understand it has an alloy #951 wishbone that Porsche don't supply parts for. Besides Hartech's exchange has anybody managed to have a new ball joint pressed in to the wishbone?
I'm a bit loathe to buy a used one off ebay in case it's also worn...
or do you perhaps know of someone you trust that is stripping a 85.2 944 that will have a good-to-go wishbone?
thanks

Its not a matter of pressing in a new ball joint - but rather taking the old one apart and puttting a new one in. The Renbay website has a step by step guide (in pictures). There are 2 sorts of replacement. 1- a nylon cup and steel ball as the original 2- bronze cup and steel ball. I did the nylon cup route with mixed success. It was easy to do and reasonaly cheap....but only lasted about 3 years. This time round I am going with the bronze cup. It is 50% more expensive but gets very good feedback. As for the job, once you've got the arm off it takes less than an hour to change the joint. Good luck.

I'd be wary of the DIY kits unless you really know what you're doing. If you think that a refurbed part is between £150 and £200, and it's a proven solution that'll last for many years, it's got to be the only sensible way forward.

Considering one very respected name on here (specialist down south) doesn't hessistate in recommending the Rennbay kit, and that people like Pete have had sucess from them, I wouldn't mind about fiting one of those kits (I went for a Hartech lower arm BTW). What offset are your wheels? You may be able to use the steel control arms (but I think your car may be a year too late).

+1 for the refurbed units done by someone who knows what they are doing rather than DIY kits. Am getting both mine done at present and its the sort of thing I would rather pay more for knowing that its going to be done right rather than go for a cheap and cheerful solution.

Thanks guys - I managed to get a pair of wishbones that are in good nick - saved me some moola for other bits - while they're off would it be a good idea to fit new bushes all round to tighten up the handling? I noticed that my o/s anti-roll bar bushing is bulging out on the engine side.

In the context of 944 ownership I wouldn't they are overly expensive either. [ORIGINAL: ChasR I would hardly call £150 on balljoints cheap [].
