Wing Repairs

Somewhat delayed, but attached are some photos of the repairs to one of my wings. The finished job for both sides only cost me a few hundred. The car is due a respray later this year, so he covered the primer with stone ship for now. I'm also currently having some work to the sills, so will post some photos for that later this week, or next as I just found out I need to hassle Elliot at Porkaparts for some repair panels. I expect he's fed up hearing from me by now!

If anyone needs any bodywork done, I'd recommend him. He specializes in restoration, is just starting out on his own, and is very keenly priced and is based in Colchester.

Glad to hear it Elliott.

The car went in last week to have the wiring sorted and some bad sill repairs put right, going to be in a while longer now though [:(] so I won't be using it Saturday to sweeten the drive to the in-laws for the weekend!
 
I did something almost identical to the wing on my S2 about three years ago. Slightly smaller repair patch but that's all. Yours looks like a nice job, but make sure you get LOTS of anti-rust stuff on the repaired bit, both back and front. I liberally apply Dynax S50 to the back of mine each year to prevent the new bit from dropping off (something they are prone to doing apparently.)

The car is back with the same guy at the moment having work to the sills, and he's getting 2.5 litres of waxoil to cover the wing repair, and inside and out of the sills. Apparently he goes for the 'poor it in and jack the car up one end' approach to make sure the sills get a good internal covering. I'd love to be able to do this myself one day, but I need a lot more time, space and money to get all the welding gear and learn how to use it.
 
Go easy - I am told you can apply waxoyl too thickly and this can have negative effects. And if you pour it in one end it will just run out of all the holes along the bottom edge (which need to be kept clear to allow the sills to breathe.)

Also, Waxoyl isn't the best anti-rust stuff there is; there are modern products which are significantly much better.

2 panels on order from Elliott, so won't have an update until next week. I'll mention to him about making sure not to block the sill holes
