Will these BBS wheels fit ?

Hi

I wondered if anyone could assist with a query. I bought a 911 a year ago with a set of BBS split rim alloys. I did not like them on the car so removed them and fitted the original fusch alloys in their place.

However, I have recently bought a 944 S2 cab in Artic white, and wondered if the silver and gold wheels would cheer up the car. They are 7 x 16 on the front and 8 x 16 on the rear.

So, will they fit, do they need spacers? Any suggestions gratefully received ?

I attach a couple of images of the wheels on the 911 for your information.

Thanks for your thoughts. How do I find out what the offsets are. The wheels are still in their original boxes, but were purchased in 1984 when the 911 was first registered, and although I have the original invoice for them it is not very descriptive?

I would have thought those wheels would fit only early offset (pre 87) 944s.
On your S2 they may well be too close to the edge of the wings, even possibly being "out".

This may sound like common sense.. But if youve got both cars + the wheels are currently off the911,then why not do a trial fit to see if they do actually fit...[][]

As per petrolhead - rear of the spokes is where the offset is usually stamped - prefixed by the letters "ET".

To fit without spacers you'll want ET values around 50. Significantly higher numbers will need spacers, lower numbers will stick out more - if the number gets too low then you'll be unable to fit them.

Thanks, and I can see where you were going with this, but the wheels don't have any tyres on as I swapped the tyres onto the fuch alloys. Therefore I am reluctant to start swapping tyres from the 944 until I have half an idea as to whether the wheels will actually fit.

I will go and have a look on the back of the wheels now for any numbers and will report back.

I have been into the garage and found the numbers as suggested. Dosn't look good !

Front - 7J x 16 H2 ET 24
Rear - 8J x 16 H2 ET 11

What do you think guys?

Sorry Tony, the fronts will sit out about 30mm compared to standard S2 wheels and the rears will stick out about 40mm [&o]

Theyll fit but assuming that their offset places the centre line in the same place as the original telephone dials (dials on the 911, Fuchs were an option), which would have had a nominal 23mm offset, then theyll be approximately 30mm 'wider' on each side. This wont be an issue on the rear, but itll interfere with the steering geometry on the front.

*eta: Ive taken so long writing that that the OP has posted up the offsets in the mean time!*

Theyll physically fit onto the car and theyll probably fit in the arches, but the offsets will be wrong. This isnt a massive problem at the rear, but the front wheels will affect the steering geometry. Theyll 'stick out' by just under 30mm at the front and an extra 50mm (offset for an 8" wheel will be 61mm or thereabouts, as opposed to 53mm) at the rear. Wikkid!

In theory they shouldn't fit as they will stick out, but you could try them out anyway as you have them in your garage somewhere I believe. If they don't then never mind you tried, if they do then great they'll look good on the 944 if they do.

Are you going to the club meet next week? If so are you taking the 944?

To cut through all the misinformation and complex wording of the right information that followed: No, they won't fit.

I'm not sure what the confusion was about as that would have been my response had I been on line in time to make post #2. It's the same question as "would the wheels from a 1985 944 fit my S2 cab" after all.

I didnt realise they had no tyres on....
Oh + If those are the offsets then,,,,NO they wont fit.. Theyl stick out mile + rub lots on the arches....
If yours is an S2 then the offsets you can fit at max will be,, 50 fronts + 47 ish rears..+ you might even have to do some arch rolling to make them fit.. especially the rears... Trust me ive tried.....
Basically the lower the number the wider they stick out... The higher the figure the narrower the track...

I see yours has sold. Was it to someone local and therefore will it still be coming to the club events?

It was sold to someone from Tavistock and they may come to the meets I don't know, it would be nice.

I've sold it to help speed the process up of saving for a 996 turbo and a few little modifications, that has been the car I've always wanted and what got me into Porsches when I was about 12, failing that a nice 996 carrera cabriolet will do just nicely.

I disagree that they wont physically fit. Early offset wheels fit on later wide-track cars, with room to spare at the rear.
