why do my wheels look daft?

I have a 1985 944 2.5 lux with teledial wheels but thay dont fill the arches by a good 60mm each side on the rear and 30 on the front. Is there something missing on the hubs or are the wheels wrong? and if so what bits or wheels shoud I get?
Cheers Jules

85's have the early offset I believe, so I'm guessing it has the later teledials with the later offset... I could be wrong as I'm new to the 944 but that's what I seem to have picked up on searching through various threads and forums

Two issues. 1982-1985 cars (and 1986 cars too, even though theyre series twos) use a 23mm offset wheel. This equates to a reasonablly noticable visible rim on a seven inch wheel.

1986 model year telephone dial wheels are similar and will fit correctly.

1987-1989 model year 944s require a wheel with a 52.3mm offset. Somewhat confusingly a 'bigger' offset actually equates to less visible rim and the 7" telephone dial wheels from these cars will only suit earlier offset cars when used with 30mm spacers.

This problem is usually compounded when fitting 52.3mm offset wheel to series one cars (1982-1985), by the spacer that is fitted to the rear, sticking to the original wheel when its removed, so if the rear wheels look ridiculous with the nuts broken through by the studs, then youll need to pry the spacers off the old wheels first, then buy some 30mm spacers to finish the job. This can be very difficult by the way, and you may need to use a big hammer!

This doesnt happen on the 23mm offset 1986 cars because their new alloy rear suspension was designed for a wider track 944, rather than adapted to a wider track as the series one cars 924 Turbo derived running gear was and they dont use spacers and elongated studs.

Your Lux is the same year as mine. You need the 23mm offset Teledials which will look like this - these are 16s:

And these are 15s which were standard:

I've got the 15's on mine on an 86 car, only noticed at the Ace Cafe meet last night how much more dish they have over the 87+ cars
