Why Bother

I was reading the Porsche Post last night and in the Caymam Register there is an artical by Karel Deeley, It reads as though he bought his Cayman in mid July and managed to clock up his first 1000 miles buy the end of October, thats about 17 weeks or 119 days in which case he averaged 8.4 miles a day. I hope this is not correct and I have just read it wrong. If on the other hand I am right why bother owening a car at all? I ride my push bike further than that in 17 weeks! I could have kept £45,000 plue in the bank an had a top of the range road racing bike for about 3 grand or so. Please tell me I am wrong.
