Whos the lucky owner of the SE ?

JUST missed out on the white S2 SE for sale in Scotland yesterday - I understand its one of only 15 made as run out model - 225bhp and had M030 as standard, nice ... anyone on here bought it ?

Apologies, slight thread drift - does anyone know whether more recent after-market ECU chips offer similar benefits to the 944 S2 Porsche original on this car? Thanks.

Very nice, although it seems to be another suffering from S2 'lean'. If you look at picture 3 (from the front), you can clearly see the drivers side is lower than the passenger.

I see what you mean about the lean, but suspect it may be due to (or emphasised by) the fact that the photo isn't taken head-on.

I seem to recall previous discussions about the SE concluded that it had the same chip as Promax sell. As Edd said, the 225bhp may or may not be realistic. Promax claim (or used to claim) 250bhp from their chip; when I quizzed Andy Sweetenham about this he said that they had genuinely seen 250bhp from an S2 on the rollers with their chip, but admitted that this was on the high end of what could be expected in most cases.

Interesting looking car but the purple, blue and black interior wouldn't sit well with my lunch.

I went to see this car in the flesh.

I also turned down the opportunity to buy it for £3500 18 months ago and again last year for £5k when it appeared on Pistonheads in September after having had some money spent on by the next owner. Not a bad car by any means but it certainly isn't perfect and at the end of the day - whilst only 15 were "made" - the some total of the extras were nothing special by modern standards although the 968 M030 sized ARBs are quite desirable.

For starters, there is wear to the drivers seat bolster, the interior colour isn't great, the wheels aren't standard or that great IMHO, there's bubbling to sills and there are signs of paint over spray at the lower edges of the car where previous rust has been painted over. When viewed 18 months the rust was visible and although not terrible I was concerned about the rust I perhaps couldn't see (although I accept there may not be much more but I didn't see it on a ramp so elected to be cautious).

Just my opinion and comments of course....

Looks great in the pics, though "Twist" wheels do not look right on a 944 IMO too modern, also the twin tailpipe does not do it for me, all easily sorted of course, wonder how much it went for ?

Very close to the asking price so I am guessing near £4.2k-ish.

I am not saying for a second it wasn't decent as it drove quite nicely but I don't think the SE badge made this motor that special really.

i agree with steve i also viewed the car and was nice blue interior ruined it though i hope the new owner has good luck with it

Hi All,

We had a customer car in 2004 that hat a cat bypass, ProMAX chip and K&N panel filter that recorded 250bhp and 219lb/ft torque at the Jamsport Dyno (Northampton) - the car did go very well, but after we switched to the Dyno at Weltmeister (before they disappeared), we realised that the Jamsport Dyno was possibly a little optimistic. However, the 944S2 with Cat (1990 model year onwards) did respond very well (generally) to that combination of upgrade parts (if engine compression was good and the overall engine was in good shape to begin with).

Only way to truly measure the effectiveness of an upgrade is a same day run on the same dyno (before & after). I would say that the ProMAX chip can be worth about 10bhp; additional benefits are improved throttle response and increases in torque at certain points in the RPM range.

Regards,
Andrew
