Just a thought when was your 944 s2 registered?

Mine is Guards Red with full black leather

Registered 25.01.89

Mine is 07/02 /1989 zermat silver with extended blue pine stripe and sports seats. Although as I pulled it to bits all the build dates were oct 88.

I see your pointless August 1990 and raise you an equally pointless (but romantic) Valentine's Day 1990 [8D]

Pretty quiet thread this ...

Lol. suppose I could add mine as August 1990, but it's be pretty pointless! [&:]

If we were giving prizes for the newest reg 944S2 then I might suggest mine, first registered Aug 1992, but like Paul said pretty poinless me posting my date of reg

A dealer in Scotland recently sold the Earl's Court show car which was reputed to be one of the very first s2 models in the UK - lovely specification with non-sunroof and aircon.

They bought it on Ebay for circa £1600 (it had been stored as part of a collection of cars so no MOT) and sold it via Pistonheads for an advertised price of £5495.

If I didn't have my hands full already I would have bid for it myself.

Ha! You're older than me!

(An aside, it seems that the earlier 944's were made from significantly better tin than the later ones and hence rust less. I have seen worse rust problems in late S2's than in earlier ones, and that's comparing cars that are only about 3 or 4 years different in age. I'm pretty glad my S2 is an early one, although I didn't realise the significance when I bought it.)

I always knew mine was an early one it was owned by AFN in London and when I bought it was told they owned it for the first 2 years of it's life.

Still in amazing condition and 100% original and fully working(except cirgarette lighter)

Thanks for all the replys good to hear others intresting dates and assosiations.

I have wondered about this myself but assumed the rusty state of the newer cars was down to owner care (or lack of) of the vehicle, perhaps the same applies to the later turbo's as the relatively late example for sale on ebay recently was pretty much a rust bucket too.

It's an observation I made a while ago on here. McNulters confirmed that one of the larger indies (RPM, I think) has the same opinion.

I suspect that Porsche started buying cheap steel sometime in the early 1990's and things got bad from that point on.

There's a definite tendancy for the last cars to rust more, I've even seen the 2.7 luxes in shocking condition with daylight showing through the sills!

It might tie in with the move from Neckersaulm, different factory different standards? Or be down to the quality of steel used. Apparently this is why Alfas were so bad; they exchanged the Fiat tooling with Lada for nasty recycled Russian steel.

Interesting - I thought all the 944's were made in Neckarsulm, and they only moved to Zuffenhausen with the start of the 968 production. Your comment suggests that this isn't right, McNulters?
