Who has an 85 C reg turbo ?

Mas
those numbers are cast in, what you are looking for is number stamped onto a machined face about 60mm long by 22mm wide. Numbers about 12mm high.
George

Sorry ? , I am confused now as to where the number is , i understand now
that I need to find a stamped number (oops)

That was me standing next to the drivers side of the bonnet looking down the back of the engine so basically in front of the driver. Am I even lookin gin the right place it seemed as described location wise [8|]

Mas

I thought only the 52 numbers were on the drivers side and 50/51 on the passengers side, just behind the AOS tube... i stand to be corrected of course..:)

Pete

You are in the right area,

i'd say too far back by about 100mm, and you are round the end of the block, you need to be on the side near to you.

good luck

george

Ok.. I thought i was right... here's some location pics... up to 87 is located here on the passenger side next to the AOS tube as i said.

and on later cars it's here on the drivers side on top of the block

Ill have a look tomorrow or maybe Friday daytime but I dont fancy my chances of reading it if it is indeed
" round by the starter motor" [8|]

Edit ! er sorry Pete clearly we googled the same website at the same time lovely , I just
scrolled up the post and found I copied you by 3 seconds am I bad or what [8D]

Mas

aha.. yes that's the same site that I was just at... it's misleading to say it's by the starter motor.. it's far higher than that and should be seen from the top ok. As you can see on that site there were only 400 M44/50's made although the forged internals were used until stocks ran out, as JM has said in the past, ' the most desirable engine block has the non adjustable belt tensioner fitted' if you have that your doing well. I have no doubt that your car will have the early block, which could be either the 50 or 51 variant.

Pete

Sorry Mas, (thanks Pete)
I was describing the lower version Pete has posted, on the same plane as the CHG.
Looks like there was an earlier location where Pete has suggested.
I stand corrected
Let us know how you get on.....M44/50 0001 [8|]

Am pretty certain that my first Turbo was first registered in late 1985 - October if memory serves. As far as I know she is still out there on the road somewhere....

doesnt Olli know someone with a pre-prod car in Finland?).

Yes i know one pre-prod car, but it is a model year '87 version made early 1986. That car have a special cross over pipe which was never seen on production models. It also have a weird aluminium glove box. All other stuff is "normal" model year '87 items, like ABS & air bags. VIN number ends 008. Usuallu numbers between 001 to 016 were pre-prod cars.

A friend of mine owns a '85 951. That car was made in May '85. It was registered in July '85. Engine is m44/50

Rav was offered it back recently - at a profit for the current owner! I don't think much has been done to warrant to increase but I could be wrong.

Hmmm wonder how much he was after ? I do miss that car...

Strange he offered to sell it to Rav and not on here as he possibly cost himself a sale.

I wasn't looking when Rav sold and kicked myself as I would have bought his ( which is an 86 by the way) being Zermatt.

So where is this 85 one then [:D] , hopefully in bits lol

Mas

Well Ravs old car was my old car and am sure the registration document said 1985 but may be time has clouded my memory...That said am sure that here on the forum there is a thread I started when I first joined where I mentioned she was an 85 registered car. Might try and find it when I get the chance to double check whether my mind is playing tricks on me or not.

I understand jon , i was going by his sale ad which says 86 and he told me 86 but he may have been confused
I often am :)
