Which battery charger

Re awaking this old thread.

I have a couple of carcoon chargers/conditioners which have served me well over the many years of ownership and still good for traditional batteries. Now our 981 is on the scene with it's 80Ah AGM battery, I wonder if anyone can help with a couple of questions:

1st - can the CTEK MX 5 be used in mode 8 the recondition phase without removing the battery from the car?

2nd - Has anyone owned a NOCO Genius 5, if so how has that performed and can that be used without removing the battery from the car.

My concern is the higher voltage needed for the recondition phase for a sulphated battery and if this would damage the 981's circuits if the battery stays in the car.

Thanks for any help.

Dont know if this helps have a 13plate 2.7 981 Boxster and it has the stop start function and I have it connected to a Ctek multi X5 3600 model it has the connector direct to the battery the connecter comes out through the slots in the battery cover and plugs straight into the Ctek lead .hope that makes sense .Saves you having to take the cover off the bulk head off every time you connect and reconnect .Also have 2 Lidl ones with croc clips connect to 2 other cars great value at £14

Hi Kitchens

Thank you for replying, it has helped me make my question more concise. It is the specific reconditioning function of the Ctek MX 5 and I'm hoping someone will have some experience with. I read that a higher voltage is needed to de sulphate the plates on these batteries and that the Ctek MX 5 has an option 8 to carry this out. I am ok with connecting up as you helpfully suggest. I also read that some charger/conditioners need the battery disconnected when using a 10amp charger type - higher than the 5 amp of the Ctek, so just checking that 5 amps is enough and will recondition the plates without removing the battery.

Regards Nick
