where do you insure your 944? :)

Hi Mark, Moved to the 944 forum for you. See the insurance faq here: [link]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=626167[/link] Trouble is, everyone's insurance profile is so varied it's hard to know where to recommend; the company that like me as a risk could give you a silly quote based on one difference. The big ones are, of course, age, location, garaged or on street, modified or not, claim history, occupation etc. The only real advice is to hunt around, and consider trying non-classic insurers as well. I could have got 30% cheaper this year through Direct Line, for instance, although they won't offer the benefits of a classic policy such as agreed value. Good luck!

Hi Mark, Welcome. There is an insurance thread here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=626167 I use RH for my '87 turbo. Garaging makes a huge difference. My premium is £140 for the year and no claims does not seem to be relevant on classic car policies. Craig

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to check out the faq :) maybe getting my girlfirend to insure and me as a named driver if it doesnnt come down much. Cheers Mark.

Hi all, I'm looking to buy a 944 s2 or turbo model and having it as a second car and looking for some reputable classic car insurance companys. I'm 26 with 9yr ncb and the best I'm getting so far I'd £700 which seemed far too high really? Any input would be great. Thanks Mark.

Ive insured my MX-5 with Sureterm, but Im not sure that I would go with them for a 951, or use them again, actually.

Hello and welcome markR123. It would be useful for the whole forum, especially new and prospective 944 owners, if people who haven't done so, added their insurance costs and any claims experiences to the sticky thread at the top, so that as then everyone knows where to find it when they want it. If we have multiple threads kicking off it makes it hard to build up a coherent picture.

REIS for me for the past few years. I used them both for road and track day cover on the race car but also 'on event' insurance to cover race weekends.

Richard Eggar were alright to speak to and their price wasnt bad, but they seem to be getting a poor name with MX-5s, of late. The reason that I didnt insure with them was because whilst they did offer an agreed value policy on a Mk2 MX-5, they didnt offer salvage retention. The real piss-boiler though, was Mary suggesting that I could buy it of their salvage dealer, which 'was the same thing'... Imagine how thatd turn out when they got a sniff of a 951 with some tasty parts on it. Sureterm are owned by Capita, who are a pretty poor company. I didnt learn this until after Id paid for my policy or Id have had second thoughts. They lied about their worthless legal cover being an option too, but after several calls one advisor came clean. Do you really want to deal with brokers who dont always tell the truth? Simon

Hi there I have just insured my s2 with fluxdirect im 26 4 years ncb parked on my drive 7500 miles a year and I work in a pub one of the highest insurance no no's lol and I've just got it insured for £535.80 and it comes with show cover and lots of extras.

Norton £230 Sureterm £239 Hagerty £186 Classicline £155 All for 3,000 miles per annum for a 1988 944 Turbo. Classicline also includes free breakdown cover although theyve had to stop offering free Euro cover now. They do have a brilliant attitude to modifications though - leather sports trim? Yes. Racing seats and a 968 rear seat delete? Yes. Polycarbonate hatch and windows? Yes - all for no extra charge. I believe that a GRP bonnet and a rollcage wont affect the premium either. Add to that, that youre able to increase the mileage through the year if required and we have a head and shoulders winner.

+1 for Classicline, got nothing but good things to say about them, also cover club organised track days for no extra £. Edd

Aviva wanted to increase my premium by 50% when I got the 968, so did a search on the usual websites and now have it covered for £381 with Tescos for 12,000 miles a year
