Where do we go from here?

Just out of interest.... After seeing my own post.. Did someone else change my signature at some point to say "independent Porsche specialist" and my "from" to be "JMG Porsche, Bournemouth"?

I could have sworn it used to say just "jon mitchell" and my from was just "bournemouth".. Although, it could have been me in one of my cantankerous moments.

Hi Jon,

You changed it [;)], and it's been "ignored", along with some others. There has been a move towards letting some "breaches" slip through, so long as they are meant in the right spirit, as I think yours is. You want people to know who you are, not post anonymously, which is a good thing.

Your longer post is interesting, and I'm replying personally. Partly because of timing, as some of what you raise is being discussed at present. The Club's whole IT presence is undergoing review, and the forums are part of that.

How the Club allows specialists and professionals to post more freely, without it becoming a problem with advertisers spamming everything, is the tricky bit. Your example of what happened on Titanic is a perfect example, although that particular person did apologise and understood why he'd raised so many people's hackles, so that's all long in the past now. I think a lot of people would agree we've been too heavy-handed in the past, but others disagree and would have the rules even more rigid. Hopefully we've found a middle-ground and will be moving it on a little in the near future. [:)]

Ah.. a cantankerous Jon moment then!

From a community point of view any well considered new developments with the forum will be a good move.

It might be worth mentioning that I imagine the officers of the club may also be under a little pressure from Porsche cars of Great Britain as obviously PClubGB need to keep their close ties with PCarsGB, so sometimes the moderators may have to make decisions based on a lot more than what can be seen on the surface of things, which I fully understand... Or I could be way off base.

Anyway, best of luck with all your efforts to move forward

Hi Jon,

Actually, this hasn't been the case in my experience. Porsche GB do monitor the forums, as they do with all the other UK Porsche forums, but I've never heard of an issue with ours. I know PH pull a LOT more threads than we ever have. I guess the only thing we have to do is make sure any adverts for aftermarket products make clear that they will invalidate the warranty, if that is the case.

Our only issue has been, and I don't think I'm giving any trade secrets away here, lol, the website. Part of the relationship we have as an "official" Club is that they give us the corporate website platform to use, but it's useless for what we need. Hence looking for something better. [:)]

I think forums are very good, I now am far less active than I was. In the past I was more on them as they where all new and it was a nice place to be part of. Being self employed on my own at the time it was like having work mates to chat with. Before you know it, your on their all the time.

In terms of meeting new like minded people and it was a level playing field. I personally help too much and offer to help too much. Which is why I came off forums to look a bit after my self.Do my own things not helping others ( I am not saying I don't help now I just have to reel it back in less is more type thing ) Also the ego's of some people are inflated at times because I fear once they are sat down with a glass of wine they then start to get personal. I had this with one forum. So much so I packed it in and handed in the keys as it where to the sections I was looking after. That part of my life was fun up and till then. Then its just a bitter reminder of being s*** on. I have recently for the first time in a number of years looked back and posted on there again but I have no feelings to be part of it. Some say their loss, I just think it's a sad loss for the group as a whole.

I have had my fill on here in the past. Some people will say things on their keyboard they wouldn't dare say to some ones face. Also I think that forums you can't see the humour side of things. I have a very dry sense of humour and if I write some thing my wife can see what I am saying but she also says you could read that another way.. a negative way. So much so I wrote some thing once that was read a VERY different way to how I wrote it in my mind and I was then dropped so I understand ( not to my face, they didn't even have the balls to say it to my face I had to find out another way ) for 912 reg sec. Now look at the section, it's DEAD!

I do think it's healthy to walk away for a bit from forums and come back to them. I personally do write as I speak. So I have in the past said it how it is.. even if it upset some one. But then they did or said some thing for me to react to it in the first place. One person on here not this section I have directed it very full on but then he was so out of line from the start, his ego far bigger than the room can take. I'm not going to say more. But forums I feel are leveling out in terms of their are so many different forums for the same topic it's nice to drift in and out over time rather than be on all the time. After all we have other things to do in life.. mind you if you have been part of a Watch Forum.. they are a speical breed! OMG I don't know how some of these people can get out of bed in the morning. Or do they have people that do that for them....[8|]

I note spelling has been mentioned, well we can't all be good at every thing and I certainly can't spell very well. I do my best and if some one is rude enough to have a go about it.. then they can get stuffed as far as i am concerned. I'm good with my hands to make and fix things.. I found the ones that commented on spelling where very good at washing their cars and sending them in to be fixed! may be i should have a go at them for being stupid and not fixing things!
