When it's cold...

Why is gear changing a touch clunky ? When I start from cold, changing gears can be a touch tricky. Then after driving 6-8 mins when it warms up it's smooth and effortless. Is this pretty normal? If so why?
Thx
Roy

Not experienced that. I can truly say I haven't noticed any great difference in gear change, warm or cold, in the many years I have had a 996.

Thanks Dave! I think it must be IMS [:D]
I'm sure I read another user who had similar issues but I'm going to see Tony Wright next week so will have a word with him.

Thx

Roy,

Check out 'Buyers Checklist' under 996 Technical Articles.....all explained :)

I have a C4S and find 1st to 2nd a little 'notchy' until warmed up. Perfectly fine thereafter.

Phew!! Thanks Guys....I actually meant "notchy" and not "clunky". No noise is made it's just a little difficult findng the gear, have to guide it in slightly more than when warm! Thanks once again. Symptons are exactly as below.

Transmissions
Manual Check for smooth operation and changes. Note that when cold
the change from first to second gear can be slightly stiff, but this
should disappear when warmed up. Listen for noises when
accelerating and on a trailing throttle. All parts are now available
for manual transmissions, so they can be repaired rather than
replaced (as was the case until December 2006).

Mines different to that. I can struggle to get 4th gear and sometimes 3rd. Had it checked by Porsche Centre Chester who said it seemed okay to them although there were some unexplainable tie wraps on the linkage cables, which they removed.

Sometimes 4th can be really tricky though.

Told you, that you should have got Tiptronic!!!![:-]

Mines always been like this as well, although they buyers guide and the specialist suggested that it was normal for a manual 996. I haven't let it bother me since by the time I have gone round the corner from home it is ok.
