Wheels & Tyres

Hi guys,

Just in the process of buying a 1987 944 Lux. It has 15" cookie cutter wheels on at present. Eventually I'm wanting to get a new set of design 90's or something similar.

Does anyone know what was the original spec for wheels and tyre sizes?

Many thanks

Richard

Not sure if 944 D90's were different to 964 D90's but the tyres should be 205/55/16 on the front and 245/45/16 on the rear.

My son is looking for 15" cookie cutters for his Mk 1 Golf

Apparenty bling polished design 90`s and cookie cutters are the rage

I'll be selling my cookie cutters once i get some new wheels sorted. Watch this space.

Cheers for your help guys.

I've not seen Cookie Cutters used, but D90's look really good on Mk2 Golfs.

I am now reliably informed (in the way that only a hormonal teenager can) that they Fuch alloys, D 90`s and Teledials are fitted and not cookie cutters although he is m'ing and a'ing now that I`ve shown him cookie cutters [&:][&:]

Cookie Cutters are back in???? Gawd there's no accounting for taste. Soon you'll be telling me that Phonedials are back too. Yikes.

I actually don't mind teledials, especially the 16" Turbo ones with a bit of dish. Cookie cutters however have not a single redeeming feature in my eyes. I can't imagine they'd look any better on a Golf than they did on a 944.

I don't think the teledial design has ever gone completely out of fashion. Alfa Romeo have always had a 3-hole teledial type design available on their cars and the new Lambo's have a 5 hole teledial design too. And the 15" teledials seem to be bought and sold at a constant rate on ebay although not for much money.

Now i'm upgrading to big blacks I'll be looking to get rid of my 16" teledials soon as there is no point in me keeping them. I was keeping them just in case I wanted to refit to revert the car back to standard trim but I don't think that's ever going to happen now!

I shall be looking to either refurb or replace like for like my teledials soon. I think they suit my car but mine need sorting out as they have not been looked after by PO. If anyone knows someone they recommend in the South East for refuebing the wheels Id be very interested. I have had mixed reports on certain companies in the past.

I had a disappointing experience with Lepsons of Gillingham. They are often recommended on this forum but I had a set of Cookie cutters and a set of Fuchs done at the same time, on both sets the laquer started to discolour in patches within the year, When approached Lepsons were frankly not interested in rectifying.
