Wheel cleaning

How does everyone else deal with cleaning the wheels. After washing them with car shampoo and a small sponge I have no choice but to rinse with water, the discs are then covered in rust (or what looks like rust), the minute I take the car out and use the brakes I have to clean the wheels again to get rid of the brown powder that comes from the discs.

Anyone have a better solution?

I use same solution, short drive with a bit of left foot braking to dry and clean the discs.

If you don't want the hassle of - clean the wheels, dry the brakes and then wipe the wheels down to get rid of the brown, brake dust and rust marks, jack the car up and take them off. Its actually quite quick if you have a trolly jack[]

Same advice as above but then the Carrera classics are easier to clean. I hose the brake discs as well to clean out brake dust from the holes

But be careful not to burn yourself!
(seriously - the wheels can get mighty hot after a short "brake drying" run )

Looks like I will need to buy a torque wrench and a trolly jack.

The cheapest method is driving for a short distance as indicated above; a few short sharp jabs on the brakes will clear the discs of the rust and stop it from forming until the next cleaning or rain from one side. To avoid the latter, try a car cover - the breathable type. I have one and it is excellent.

Please be warned! Even breathable car covers can cause micro blisters. Car should be bone dry before fitting.

This is one reason i went for PCCB's.....


I know they are a very expensive option, and it's not as if standard Porsche
brakes aren't any good, but i like many people here, hate the brake dust build up
on the alloys.

These NEVER rust up after washing, the centre bell is stainless so always looks prestine, and they never, ever show any brake dust, no matter how hard you nail them[] !!!

I polish thewheels once in a while, and for the next 3-4 months, any road dirt comes off with a a quick hose down, heaven []

Yes Glenn, but for most of us the replacement cost of 4 grand a corner is a little daunting! I'll suffer quietly with my iron rotors. Maybe a aftermarket disc manufacturer will put some chrome in the metal, just like the good old days.
