Wheel Balancing After Repair to Alloy?

I've just had a minor repair carried out to the rear nearside wheel after suffering a bit of a scuff, please see images.

The repair was carried out with the wheel & tyre in place, i.e. the wheel was not removed from the car, & the tyre was not removed from the wheel.

Just wondering if it is necessry to have the wheel rebalanced after this treatment...

Very unlikely for such a minor repair, if the tyre had been removed then defo rebalance. If the balance is out on a rear wheel you normally feel it in your backside, so if you notice a different then no harm is getting it checked, this is all assuming that no wheel weights were removed.

I was hoping that would be the case. No weights were removed during the process.

I have not yet driven the car since the repair, but am planning ontaking it for a spin tomorrow, so will watch out for any vibration or anything unusual during the run...

Interesting to note that your repairer didn’t touch the tyre. Usually they will remove the wheel, deflate the tyre and break the seal between the bead and the wheel to get better access for the repair, so a rebalance will be desirable. However in your case, as said, a rebalance shouldn’t be necessary.

Thanks Jeff. I was expecting him to remove the wheel/tyre, but he said that it wasn't necessary as he could access the damaged area without the need to do so. He was only repairing the scuffed area, not refurbishing the entire wheel.

I took the car out for a spin this morning, it seemed okay to me.
