Whats your Daily Driver ?

Hi All
We all have our 944 as a second car - a guilty pleasure to put it better - So what do you drive as your daily hack (terms of getting classic insurance)

Well you know that half cousin that you only meet at family occasions ? Well I have a 05 Mk1 Skoda Fabia vRS - She is a 1.9 PD and is a real hoot to drive. Never fails to make me smile which is a rarity in todays non descript more of the same ecoboxes....! I now do a 70 mile commute every day and the wee car gives me about 55-60 mpg... !

What's yours ?
 
Ditto..........I'm in with the 50+ MPG Oil Burner Club, Seat Altea 2.0TDi 140
Gutsy motor & Brakes, but rolly poly FWD handling but it carries all the shopping / Kids / Dogs / Junk etc..

Life's too short to drive a diesel...
My normal car is an M135i, sounds great and is surprisingly quick. A bit modern and numb, but grips better than you might expect.
We have a VW Up for my wife's work, short trips & city driving - I really like it, solid, simple & feels well engineered, handles well.
Oh and the 911 for more pleasant drives - not as fast as the BMW, but more engaging.

Life would be too short if I did 1000+ miles a Month with a 3.5litre petrol Beemer and MPG in the 20's? !
The diesel car and their economy is a necessity on the grounds of costs.......
I've also got a Race van 2.2Dci Transit, 4 wheel Brian James Trailer and a 2.7 924 Racecar to service and feed with £££££'s (A Race entry fee is £700)!

None of this would be possible without an economic daily Diesel....

As a tracker is now fitted to the work vehicle, the 944t is now. Also my girlfriend's 04 Astra if I need economy above the 20s. My office is under 3 miles away so a push bike is fine for that unless the weather is horrible .

Fortunately a BMW 3.0 turbo six gets mpg's in the 30's :) Anyway depreciation is the bigger cost on most cars vs marginal cost of petrol vs diesel. I had 7 years of tooling round in a 325D and that was enough. I might have a different view if it was 30k+ miles a year, but I probably do ~10k in that car.
 
My 944 turbo has always been my main car but really my toy, my everyday vehicle is between 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 turbo diesel which is the everyday kids taxi if we’re out and the wifes main vehicle , but in all truth I use my work transit for commuting to work and back and general use which is actually pretty good on mileage and torquey and comfortable. If and when I want to have a blast and burn money I get my 944 turbo out and enjoy that , but mostly only weekends as and when.

if I had it my way I would drive the Porsche everywhere if I could!!! (No brainier )
 
Petrol A4 quattro Avant for crappy weather and the dog. Fiesta ST turbo for her indoors. Looking for a Ducati 1198 for a sunny day toy.
 
The S2 is my main car, especially when the weather is so nice. I can't see the point in owning a car and locking it away most of the time. In the depths of winter on the few days of ice and salt when I really don't want to get the S2 that dirty I have a lovely old 07 plated 1.1 Clio to rattle around in (or the wifes Jazz Si [;)])
 
Mostly a 64 plate VW amarok at the moment, did close to 30,000 miles a year the first 3 years, with a few thousand off road and lots of towing too - Annual Mileage has eased off a bit now, went pass 123,456 last week. Wife has an AWD XC60, also have an old Vito van with telescopic mast and a jeep cherokee, hoping to get rid of the cherokee soon and try a VXR8 for a bit, keeping the amarok for 4wd and towing duties.

Hi, My Guards Red 944 Lux is my daily driver,7000 miles since Dec 2017, but sometimes use my Bike (Yamaha MT10) which was pushed into full time service for 2 months from early April this year as the 944 was in for Head pressure test, Head skim, recut valves, Oil cooler seal, etc..
I've tried to attach a photo.

Thanks, the hardest thing is keeping the rims polished, as when I had them refurbed last year when they lacquered them it pickled?? so they re-cut them and I now rely on Solvol Autosol and elbow grease.

Were they (dry Powder) coat Lacquered ? or wet 2K
So now they are bare metal and open to the elements, hence the regular maintenance...

Were they original to the car ..7Jx15 all round ?

I bet they are!..... which is one of the reasons that I havnt changed from my cup1s which I do really love and they are so easy to clean. I really would like to have a bbs type deep dish one day just the thought of having to clean in between all those nooks and cranies ?? I used to have standard bbs rims on my 1995 bmw 5 series and they were a bitch to clean unless you use acid and a jet wash which I hate using and don’t any more!.
 
Powder coated then Diamond cut, then lacquered. The wheel reburb company said that the age of the alloy/porosity caused the problem. But I like the look of the original wheels, so I don't mind the graft to keep them looking good, the winter is a B.....d!! been using ACF50 to try to protect against the elements and salt.

Ok, yes the porosity can be prone to trap gasses inside the pores which when covered with powder lacquer can bubble in the oven at 200 degs, but a lot of wheel places do most or all stuff on the cheap and don't pre heat the metal before coating (To expel the gasses) and hence save money on oven gas costs etc..

It's a shame as powder clear lacquered polished rims can last a good time if done well, now and again there can be a few issues with the age of the metal but usually
it's from cost cutting etc..

Unless they wee lacquered wet with a spraygun ? and 2 pack (clear + hardener)

At my job I've recently powder lacquered some Lambo Diablo SPlitrim hoops which were mirror polished then thoroughly degreased, pre heated and clear powder gloss lacquered, these will only require a sponge and shampoo to clean and will last for years and years.

Hats off to those of you that use your 944's as daily cars. I walk to the road end and catch a coach to and from work occasionally the train.
My daily is an 06 BMW X3 2.0 D M Sport, hobby cars are my 944 of course, A Mini Cooper S R53 electric blue with white roof mirror caps and wheels(Supercharged) and a beautiful Imola Red BMW 330i M Sport touring in a very rare manual form I am the 3rd local owner, low miles and the original bill of sale you will not find a better one anywhere !
