What price 944 Turbo 170k FSH dodgy cloth int?!

Hi from a newbie.

It's a 1989 SE manual, with A/C and a few dash cracks, and a patch repair on the drivers bolster.

What would be a fair price to sell the above at? Glacial blue, with studio cloth interior. Very clean exterior, no dents, dings or scratches. Refurbed Design 90's and good Bridgestone tyres.

Is 170k considered a bit leggy for these? I know you see the inter-galactic 250k er's!

Cheers.

Bobby.

The one on Pistonheads for £5k? If so, been for sale for ages. Over a year anyway. More I think. Difficult one to price. New sills? But belts need done. £3250? I have watched some accident damaged cars go at auction for early £3k mark and broken up so at least worth this I think?

Hi Sim, thank for the reply.
Yeah it's the PH £5k one. I didn't want to advertise it on here in case it case snapped up from under me!
Went to see it on sat. Very hard to fault, but I know nish about the mark, but have had classics in the past.
Had a brief, low speed drive, and all seemed well.

Is £500 a fair estimate for a belt change inc parts?

£500 for belt change is fair although what about head gasket, clutch, suspension refresh, water pump etc - evidence of previous or recent change? I'm only giving you food for though - not being critical of the car as I don't know anything about it.

Which to me means, unless you can find the previous owner and get sight of a big pile of evidence of work done in the last three years, find a different car.

Trader says no history file, which is a bit odd..
Cheers.

I would pass unless you are looking at a 'break' value only on it. It may be ok but huge gamble with no history.

Have a look at the black one at Northways, im sure he will take a lower offer around £7k and it belonged to a Porsche enthusiast.

The Northways one does look clean Gord.

No interior shots though. It's more that I wanted to spend, but I've bought cheap before (Ur quattro), and paid more in the long run, than buying a good one to start with! An old, old tale..

What are the big expenses, maintenance wise with these cars, apart from belts, clutch. Do the turbo's fail?

Cheers,

Bobby/

This ones had a respray with the sill repair, but the paint looks flat and the front wheels don't look right!

I LOVE the interior though!! Big pimpin' indeed!

Well it's a proper Turbo S... [:D]

You would definitely need to check the aircon was working 100% in a black car with no sunroof

That car was for sale on e-bay about a year ago. For about £4k if I recall correctly.

The black re-spray car Scam?

What does 'proper S' mean? And why is there a difference in 0-60 times 5.5 - 6.3 secs for a 250 bhp car

Talking horses, what does your car make with all the mods Scam?

Bobby.

Hi Bobby

The black car in your link!

Simon has nailed what proper "S" means. A limited production 944 turbo, MY88, which had the 250 bhp set-up and lots of items derived from the turbo cup series cars. Also no sunroof. At this point you could buy a 220 turbo or a 250 turbo s. 250 later became standard and the S designation was dropped and things like M030 and a sunroof became an option!

Don't know about the 0-60 differences. I always thought the 250 bhp cars were 5.5 secs standard and the 220 bhp ones were 6.2 secs.

My car has not been dyno'd yet with my dual port wastegate and rebuilt engine and hybrid turbo. It done 290 bhp on the old tired single port wastegate and I would now expect around 310-320bhp with my mods.

Cheers

Stuart

If anyone buys this car but wants to get rid of the dodgy full cloth seats and door panels then I may be interested in them.

TTM - are you talking about the £5k 170k mile Glacier blue model? Do you have a swap leather?

Also to the wider forum; confused on the MY88 & MY90 demarkation?

Ta.

confused on the MY88 & MY90 demarkation?

the early spec reflected the then current turbo cup series - the cars were spec'd without regard for cost, the 90MY cars had the LSD G/Box Oil cooler, Forged Rims, sports seats etc removed as the Company had resumed their focus on the 911 with the arrival of the Carrera Cup Series - the 964 series were just emerging and got the marketing focus. The 944 series hey day was over.[:(]
