Well I've took the plunge but that radio will have to go!

Really depends on the head unit that you choose. I chose a more expensive unit to ensure I made the most of the Bose kit.
BTW you do not need to replace the amplifier as the Bose is of really good quality.
Music output is now amazing even at 70mph with the hood down.

That is a good price , very reasonable. I was quoted £1500. Where are you in the UK ?

What head unit have you got installed , I do like the Alpine units , bit of nostalgia I suppose from days gone by. I would probably go for a wireless android auto with all the trimmings if I was going to swap. I really need to get to some car audio shops near me in the summer . Regarding the Bose , it's right up there with all the other special audio companies that I have installed in my cars . I have never owned a b and w in car set up. It's a pity Kef don't make anything I really rate their equipment I have currently and preciously owned . My b and w equipment is good, but Kef are better in my opinion for av and audio .

I wish I had the courage to do something similar to my 997.2 C4S Cab. Too many years of collecting guitars has made me wary of messing with originality. As far as I can see the things you lose are the Sports Chrono map and the interface for adjusting car settings things like rain sensitive wipers on switch on.
If I had the full postcode update I think I would be happy enough with it - most of the time.
I should add that I work in tech and normally early adopt almost everything!

Collected my new to me 997.2 C2S Cab on Friday, absolutely love it. I knew it did not have the phone module in the PCM3 so went to Sheffield OPC and they quoted: Phone module £715, Map update £350 with a total of 4 hours labour at £150/hour.
I think I'll have to find another solution, want to keep the PCM for Porsche functionality.
Any Bluetooth unit recommendations?

Quick update , really considering a high end pioneer with a rear camera. I have been quoted £1300 ish fitted . I am thinking it's the cars driveability I want to keep original. I am have the centre console painted piano black and leather on the oddity bin lid , that's not so bad , an improvement with elegance. Hopefully the stereo falls into that bracket. I will post some photos if I do take the plunge , thanks everyone for their help and advice .

Here is a photo to give you an idea. I am having a front camera fitted too after a year.
The cheaper models seem to have only one camera port. The Hi-Fi end is greatly improved.

Just a question , but has anyone had this done with parking sensors already fitted to their cars? I can ask tomorrow but I was wondering with the pcm gone, how do you adjust the volume?

Quick update : I am going for a pioneer avic 820 , Bose integration , steering wheel contol link, rear camera all in £1400. I think the radio and camera are £850, the kit is £350 ish. Just waiting from pioneer about turn to turn guidance and reversing sensor integration. I like the thought of wireless android auto

Here is a picture with a picture of the rear view with the pioneer camera.

Well I have had a change in tact. I was on the phone to my regular specialist today and he said I will fit that radio for you Stephen, should only take a couple of hours. I went on line , ordered all the kit at £1040 , it's going to work out cheaper and probably a better quality fit, sorted
