Hi everyone, welcome to the new Macan Forum; a place where we post views on this rather interesting new SUV, ask questions and general make contact with like minded owners and indeed future owners.

And here is a the first comment, posted recently elsewhere:

For example, my Macan is an SUV. Porsche want to market it as a pure sports car. Quote on the very first page of their intro brochure ' A sports car that gives us what we're looking for' and 'We've created what we always create: a sports car'. Well I'm looking for a SUV that can cope with the enormous pot holes around my village, yet whisk me down to Cornwall in comfort whilst carrying oodles of baggage. A GT3 will not satisfy that criteria and a Cayenne is just too big. So to open the debate on options, do I specify air suspension and 21" wheels? That should be comfortable and look great (though cost me thousands) Of do I go for big fat rubber and standard 18" wheels? That will also produce a comfortable ride and protect my wallet, but will it look silly? Will I care?

Hi Derek

Good to see the forum up and running!

When/ what are you getting?

My S is not due until Nov., but at least I'll get one last summer with my Boxster S!

Cheers

Wikipedia's definition of a sports car:

A sports car (sportscar) is a small, usually two seat, two door automobile designed for spirited performance and nimble handling. Sports cars may be spartan or luxurious but high maneuverability and minimum weight are requisite.

Derek, I'm pleased to see that you describe the Macan as an interesting new SUV.

Yes, welcome one and all to the new Macan Forum.
I'm Mike Allen and for my sins I've accepted the role of Macan Register Secretary for this exciting new addition to the Porsche brand and I'm delighted to say that Derek Sharp has agreed to assist me, in what
I'm sure will be a very active section of the club judging by the amazing take up since the car was announced in November.
I have been an avid Porsche enthusiast for the last ten years and currently own a Diesel Cayenne and a new 991 GT3. I have a Macan on order for May delivery which will incidentally have 20 inch
wheels shod with all season tyres in conjunction with PASM and steel springs. I've found this to be the ideal set up for my last two Cayennes in which I've driven over 74000 miles for my work as a civil engineer.
With the amount of off roading and climbing up and down kerbs that I do, this size of wheel is the optimum size beyond which it is extremely easy to damage the rims.
I'm now looking forward to some lively discussion on this forum as we await our cars, so if you have questions, fire away and we'll try and answer as best we can.
Regards, Mike.

My provisional spec - due in October - is:

1. Petrol S (don't do big mileage and reduces risk of misfuelling as we will have two petrol cars)
2. Silver with black interior and red belts
3. PASM
4. 75 litre fuel tank (agree with Derek - no brainer)
5. 18" standard wheels with all season tyres
6. Heated front seats
7. Cruise control
8. CD changer
9. Cargo management
10. Reversing camera

A little over £47k

My provisional spec - due in October - is:

8. CD changer
9. Cargo management

A little over £47k

CD changer? Not sure I want that as the kit is MP3 capable with jukebox, so you can put 1000 CDs in the kit... not just 6!

Cargo management... must add that.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for accepting the challenge on our behalf[:D] Years ago Registers were just that; a register of chap's cars. Now members like to do things together with their cars. So lets do just that!

Yup, I agree, quite an exciting car, though not a 911. Mind you I chickened out in the GT3 the other way re wading, but later sailed through the floodwater in the Q3. Hopefully Macan will be just as seaworthy!

Hopefully too that we will meet up very soon. I'm at Cornbury House for the March Open Day. Drop me a line any time djs5@btinternet.com

Hi

I was at my Dealership in Colchester on Saturday picking up the Porsche issue 1/43 scale models in Black for the Turbo, Blue for the Petrol S & Grey for the Diesel S all models are excellent but all had the same wheels on but each model but are worth getting at £32 or with Porsche Club Discount £28.80. Maybe people who have ordered there Macan the Dealerships will give them one free of charge you can only hope and you will not know till you ask.

Also when at my Dealership I was advised by my Saleman of the Macan Launch evening planned for Friday 4th April 2014 which I'm looking forward to.

Once I have seen the New Baby SUV is its real form I will make up my mind on the spec but I'm drawn to the 2.0 Litre Diesel due later in 2014 over the 3.0 Litre V6 Diesel but the colour I like the look of which is not being launched from new is the Blue in all the brochures I have received so far but my Dealership has told me this colour is being released October - November 2014 hopefully when the 2.0 Litre Diesel is released too.

All the best to all who have there Macan for early delivery in 2014 & they enjoy there new Porsche when it comes.

Yours sincerely Kevin. [:)]

I just wonder if the 2.0 Litre engine will be man enough for the job. I have that engine in the smaller Q3 and though it is quite OK, I just wonder how it will perform in the heavier, larger Macan.

Hi Derek

It depends what you planning to do but all I'm looking for is a reliable Diesel but if the 2.0 Litre Diesel is not up to the job I'll look at the 3.0 V6 Diesel instead as I have spec one at just over £48000 which is what I'm looking at spending. But by the time the 2.0 Litre Diesel is released there should be ex Dealership Demo's coming to the market at high spec and a fair price.

Yours sincerely Kevin. [:)]

Well I have ordered the V6 and wonder if the 2.0 L will be here this year. We will see.

Hopefully it will be powerful enough. I'm getting about 50 mpg from the 2.0L which is great.

My spec runs to £51K, but I will probably drop the air suspension and PASM.

Good news Mike, and well done getting an Assistant (Derek) from day one. I'll be very interested to get your feedback after long term Cayenne ownership, much like myself, though I won't be looking to change for a while yet.

We have similar taste Derek, or is it just a rather short list of colour options? I too am wavering between white and agate!
Was spoilt for choice with the 16 odd colours available for GT3.

I've plumped for;
Macan S diesel with
Black leather/ alcantara
Aluminium roof rails and transport system,
Bi Xenons incl PDLS,
75 litre tank
PASM
20 inch Macan Sport design wheels with AS tyres
Heated front seats
Cruise
Adaptive sports seats
Six CD changer
PCM
BOSE
Mobile prep

Runs out at 52K only about 5k less than my last Cayenne!

Gary/Peter- thanks for the good wishes- thought I'd volunteer for a bit of a pre retirement job!
Agree I'm very fortunate to have Derek to assist from such an early stage.

Regards, Mike.

2014 Macan S Diesel White or Agate Grey!

Hi Mike,

Let's make this the best Register [:D] Why not have a pre-delivery meet at the Silverstone experience (off road of course). Su can take pics and we can write it up.

Not sure about CD changer; as I previously said, why would you want that if the Macan is MP3 capable...?

Rest of the spec is great... Agate is nice, but I really like white on the Macan as it contrasts very well with all the black.

Possibly the worst 'Ooh Look At Me I'm Buying a Macan' thread ever!!! [;)]
