Wanted: Dead DME

My latest crazy project idea is to re-design the digital board in the 944's DME to create a usb tunable drop in upgrade for the DME in the 944. This would allow the use of a modern microprocessor which can support a serial/usb interface and other usefull features yet make use of the power board and its interface with the cars electronics. A bosch MAP will interface nicely with the current system allowing the use of the 4 wires currently used for the AFM to support the MAP sensor leaving the rest of the cars sensors and outputs in the standard form. I need a DME to for testing and analysis purposes, a dead board would be usefull to have for initial analysis.

To my knowledge there are 3 basic versions, the early lux with the soldered in EPROM, the late 24 pin model with removable DME and the 28 pin model in the latest cars. Anyone know if there are any differences in the later DME's specific to the model. Would a 24 pin DME from an early turbo be the same as for the late Lux's except for a differently mapped EPROM?

There was a metal cased early DME which had a removable EEPROM - quite rare though and found on MY85s only.

Thanks, I would love to get it finished but the problem is i am especialliy lazy and I need motivation. My background is in the right area and I think producing the hardware wouldnt be too hard. The software will be tricky but I think the end justifies the means and it would offer a lot of benefits over other systems that are currently available.
