WANTED 968 Sport / Coupe

Hi

i am after a 968 also after 944. there was a beauty on Pistonheads early last year in purple. Sadly wrong time although right car. Looking for a useable daily driver not a top money garage queen.

good looking honest motor that can be enjoyed without breaking the bank.

10k mark would be perfect or as near to it as possible.

I think that you may struggle to find a Sport for £10k, but wouldn't rule out a Coupe. At that kind of price there is probably going to be work to do on the car and refreshing the suspension will probably one of the things that you need to do.

You are not far from me then.

Mine is currently "resting" over the winter while I get the seats refurbished, but happy to give you some tips on what to look out for.

 
Cheers that would be useful; spend a lot of time searching for cars and typically there are plenty of well priced examples when your browsing.

I really think you will struggle to find a Sport for £10k, don't think I've seen one at that kind of price for a long time. Even Tiptronic Coupes are generally above that now.

If you are going to the club night on Wednesday we can have a catch up.

There have been a couple of cat Cs or similar that have gone through CCA. There was a red sport dec 2020 but it probably needed 5k spending on it if you were skimping. A cheap supercharged went through Bonhams MPH in december but again, cat c and it was a wreck.

The nice purple on ebay (from Ireland) rematerialised, having been sold for what i think was just under mid teens, at around 20k mid last year.

My little feedback; First one looks fine but couple of initial observations from me - this is a Sport model with Club Sport side scripts. Nothing wrong in that, just don't let the seller convince you it's a CS. Secondly, not sure what's going on with the rear hatch side 'hockey stick' trim (certainly on the nearside). It seems it's been attached with some other fixings visible on the outside surface(?) This piece of trim should have bonded 4mm studs on the underside which then are fixed in place with nuts inside the hatch. Common for one or two nuts to disappear and also for the trim to crack where some have overtightened these nuts - they just need to keep the trim in place, nothing else.

Second Sport looks good too (caveat the fact we have no idea what's it like underneath and haven't driven it!). Two years younger and looks like a good history maybe. Either of them I would remove the bottom plastic 'shark fin' sill cover and look for and make good any corrosion that's hidden behind these (if kept outside for many years this is not uncommon).

For me the second one is my preference but definitely do not take my word for it - you're the guy who will be test driving and doing a thorough inspection. Ideally a local Porsche specialist can give it a once over and give you an opinion. Good luck. Few others will chime in next.

 
I would ask the vendors to pop the trim out of the B pillar and take a photo straight down, that will give you an idea of the sills and condition, the strange repairs to the hockey sticks by drilling and screwing will be expensive to rectify, new pair is now over £500, plus another £80 for new rubbers
