This was a camera rented by a really top notch bloke I was chatting to, suckered onto the rear quarter of his 996tt. Before anyone asks I didn't get round to turning my video camera on as with 15m sessions every time to go out was a bit of a rush to get belted up and go. However if you look closely you can see some action from me from about 30s, OK I am only in shot for a handful of seconds what more do you want [:D]

Look at all that lovely empty track. It was frequently like that for me until I caught back onto the bunch again, still though clear laps are just what we need to get a good rythm and if this is what Porsche club track days are like I will definitely be doing more in the future.

DAMN! Look at that speed differential! You were FLYING! Castle Combe is not how I imagined it though. Having never been there and hearing of the noise limits I was expecting a hill climb type circuit, narrow and winding.

I was going to slate the chap in the 996 but he does look like he got on it toward the end. That corner onto the starting grid looks nasty!

I had plenty of time to watch you Neil (DOH!!), and the car looked quick on the straights and totally planted round the corners. I just wish you'd left the passenger seat in for a bit longer 'cos I reckon I'd have enjoyed a few passenger laps...

Watch this space as they say, I have a spare seat and just need to recover it or dye it black then get a pair of side mounts to fit it in. Stephanie would love to come out on track with me and it would help me with tuition etc. That day was the best I have driven and fastest I have gone ever in a 944, really really happy. I was seeing clear of 130 on the speedo on Avon Rise and running out of 3rd gear on the exit of Camp (fluffed the shift into 4th a few times as I was trying like mad not to bounce of the limiter). Ben Camp corner is the last one onto the straight, its probably my favourite corner at Combe as you can get right on it early (watch the bump near the apex) thus carrying a lot of acceleration down the straight.

I will be doing Silverstone again on the 19th with Paul Follet, this time I promise to put my camera on and get you all some footage.

Had a big brown trouser moment on Avon Rise whilst at Castle Combe last Friday!! Having over taken a 968 and Boxster S on the straight and hitting 115mph prior to braking into Avon Rise I was off line a little due to the Boxster. This was the outcome!! I was told it was two clear pirouettes which gained me top scores with the judges !!

A shame we didn't end up on one session together Neil. I thought you were behind me out the paddock. Only 3 cars on the circuit that session including me!! Makes a huge difference in not having anything around you in testing lines and gear changes at your own pace. If only all PCGB track days were pay and play!!

It did look good!

I'd only just got to the corner and was talking to the marshal, who told me that it had been very quiet there!

That was some spin. I think you are right in that I never came across your car on track, ISTR you went back round the paddock after we parked up together as it was at lunchtime? Its funny how these things happen some cars I must have came across 4 or 5 times through the day.

Fantastic pictures Mike, where is that one showing my front inside wheel lifting?

I should add thanks Mike for all the pictures from tracks all over the country over the years, this to my mind is what Porsche is all about.

That picture of our cars sat waiting to get out on track is particularily evocative.

Thats Esses chicane behind you.

Old Paddock then onto Hammerdown, Mike you must have walked most of the way round the track. Difficult to say but looks like my line is a bit off on that lap should have been tighter to the concrete strip.

BTW I was short shifting into 4th on the way in there as it seemed to work great to avoid maxing 3rd in the corner. Still not comfortable with Tower though, I am sure I could brake much later but its so narrow and there is so little run off. I will save that bit of bravery for a race day.

I love the red and white combo SO much, looks loverly!!!
Looks like you had fun!Lovely day for it :)

Combe seems to serve us well Mark as you yourself found on the Monday with your landmark podium finish [:)]

I said to a few ppl I really would have loved to have entered that race, couldn't really afford the £1K on tyres etc. but in reality I just didn't have the confidence.

I do now [:)]

Had a big brown trouser moment...

Looks like you had a lucky escape, Steven!

Every time I see pics of your car I become just a little bit more envious!

Maybe my girlfriend would like a 924 as her next car...[;)]

Several pictures with daylight under the outside front wheels of both cars - sometimes when the car is actually under control. Superb!

Glad you enjoyed yourself Neil, when it's all working properly it's great eh!
Combe is a lot of fun in a 205 gti aswell I did a day there in Summer and had a real hoot.

Chris - which one is yours?

Send me a proper E-mail address to A9XXC@aol.com and I'll see if I've got any good ones for you.

I like the one of Neil close up , as thats from the side of the track just starting the braking for Paddock, so difficult to get!
