Various queries

Two queries, which I would be grateful for help on:

1. Sound pack on 996; what is this?

2. My front spoiler looks warn/jaded; can it be repaired or is a new spoiler required.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Dominic, in a nutshell the standard 996 stereo is not very good (some would say .." crap" ) so Porsche offered various upgrades (which should really have come as standard) the sound pack included extra speakers (e.g in the doors) & improved amplification . You could then spend more & have DSP..Porkers digital sound system, with more amps/grunt/speakers etc, this has now been replaced by the Bose option. If you haven' t got the soundpack you can get the system upgraded by a good specialist & it is well worth doing.
With regards to your spoiler, at an OPC anything is possible at a price !!! So unless it is smashed to pieces, you can have it repaired & repainted (it' s a plastic part). More to the point why has it been marked, the standard 996 spoiler isn' t very low & the car is difficult to bottom out, is it standard ?

Thanks for the advice re the sound pack. This makes sense as the sound is actually first rate. Regarding the front spoiler, the black marking is either fading or has been scratched may be as a result of poor parking. However there is no discernible adverse effect on handling whilst driving so the effect really is cosmetic.

Whilst writing, if you have an electric sunroof, do you find that it rattles if you go over any bumps?

Is anyone else really puzzled by this? This does not sound like a standard (dare I say " spoilerless" ?) nose.

Sure it' s not a Turbo?!

Dominic, it seems most 996' s suffer from the dreaded rattles somewhere & the sunroof is a common area. I' ve just had a new one start at the front of the dash....mutter....chunter...mutter.
I also wondered about what Mark said, I thought the front bumper was painted body colour, enlighten us, is it an after market spoiler or the side brake cooling ducts ?

Its not an after market spoiler. Its the area behind the front number plate. Are these the SIDE brake cooling ducts?

Re the sunroof, I was told that the rattles were caused by the misallignment of the roof. AFN quoted £700 plus to correct ie a new roof, whereas my local specialist gave a much more reasonable solution and cost!

Dominic
