V6 Cayenne

timbo

New member
Ive had my V6 Cayenne for a week now and have done 600 miles in it
Its Lapis blue (manual) with 20 inch wheels with Privacy rear glass /Sunroof/skidplate/colour coded mudguards/
colour coded sills/valence with various other bits
Ive had other 4x4s and Im suprised how well the porsche handles - it dosent roll , the brakes have a good sharp feel
which you need as you can feel the weight when you push on..
the mpg is 19-20 average - good space /visibility (im 6 foot 5) and the parking sensors are a must
I am amazed how big the the thing is when you park next to any other normal vehicle
Ive driven motorways which are a delight with hardly any road noise and along country lanes it will keep up with
most cars
the V6 needs to rev a bit to get going but once on the move its resposive (probably the 2 ton weight)
Yes-- I know its a VW engine but it has that "porsche" feel to it

cheers

tim

PS--- it loves OPTIMAX !

your pleased with it then Tim? pictures please[8D]

i have to agree. i too was pleasently suprised by the lack of roll on corners. also it dosn't seem to be affected by cross winds too much on the motorway (guess its too heavy)which is a real bonus.

we are getting about the same MPG as you are.

I have a 3.2 out on a 24 hour test tomorrow, I am due to replace a Discovery in the near future so am intrigued as to how the Cayenne drives. Does it require Optimax or do Porsche recommend regular unleaded. The reason I ask is that I do a high mileage, 30k p.a and whilst around 20mpg is not too bad if the car also requires expensive Optimax the cost of running it goes up considerably. Yes i am a bit of a tight ***e but I need to keep some money to run the C4 !!!

Tim, probably shouldn't be saying this here, but the X5 3.0d, offers much of the Cayenne's dynamics and up to 30 mpg (although 27mpg is more typical). Of course it doesn't have the covetted Porsche badge, but in all other respects it is hard to fault.

the handbook for the s and turbo recommends super un-leaded. but talking to a couple of OPCs and also staff at reading who all seem to run cayennes on standerd un-leaded and say they don't notice any diffrence in performance.

Oliver,
Why I appreciate the qualities of a BMW I personally would never buy one !
A certain type of driver drives a BMW and Im not that type of person !

tim

I mentioned Optimax as It has a higher RON than either the new BP 97 or other forecourt petrol

Tim, your personal prejudice towards BMW drivers is one that many people also share about Porsches and 4x4s. You shouldn't let it determine your choice of car.

Oliver ,
People who buy BMWs do not generally know about cars !
the last good car they made was the left hand drive M3 / M1
I drove this car and thought it was superb
Have you seen the new 7 series (what a pretty car !!!!)

Oliver

I totally agree with your comments re prejudice, Timbo, what a load of codswallop you have written!. I have excluded the X5 from my list as I require a real 4X4 but wouldn't dream of damning all BMWs and their drivers. I am a Porsche fan through and through but still believe that other manufacturers make some very fine cars.
Seven series not pretty, how about the Cayenne! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

i don't want to add fuel to this fire, but i think this statment is a little harsh, most of the BMW drivers i know (which is most of my street) get given them as company cars.

and thats why i don'tbuy BMW..............far too common. i like to be able to find my car in a car park by sight not by which car opens when i press the key fob.

any further comments please on this subject, please use the chat room

Would this be because there isn't any difference in normal day to day driving of a 2 ton truck [&o]

i think what they are saying is for every day british road driving standard un-leaded is fine.

if you want a bit extra, say on the german roads[;)] or on track then super is better. well thats how i understood it anyway.

I do apologise for my comments about BMWs
Anyway back to the Cayenne --- A few of my friends have driven it and are very
Impressed ,mainly by the handling
the one downside is the rear tailgate -- when I collected the car I complained to
the Porsche Salesman and explained the the tailgate should have the system that
automatically closes as used on the TURBO --
How a small woman can close this is beyond me without giving it a good slam
apparently on the updated version next year Porsche will incorporate this in all models
So Im probably not the first to moan
Anyway back to BMWs ............. only joking

cheers

timbo, you are entitled to your opinion just as everyone else on this forum is. Personally, I think that BMW drivers are simply misunderstood. [;)][:D] They are told to act in a certain way by their owners manual and so its not their fault. See:

Anyway, back to the topic. Glad to hear that you're pleased with the Cayenne. I'll keep an eye out for it around the Wharf. Have you taken it off-road yet?

Barry,

Good to hear from you -- are you coming to goodwood this Monday 12th April ?
lots of GT3/RSs/Turbos from 8.30am -- 5.00pm
Im going down the sunday and staying over with jules
How is suzy ?

Back to the BMWs ...... ( wished they kept Mr J.Button ! )

Barry,

I have done various off road trials with an old series 2 Landrover !-- it beat everything through
the muck/dips and hills...
I also had a G-Wagon for 2 years
I was going to take it down the slip way on the thames but panacked as I stuck it into off-road !

I did go up a kerb the other day though

cheers
