URGENT HELP NEEDED

MY 987 Spyder has been laid up for a long time and has been on a trickle charge 12.4 reading and I have opened up the car on a few occasions all fine with the key and relocks ok ..today it will not open with the remote but managed to open the door with the key ,the bonnet and boot releases wont work with the key or the buttons on the sill ,i tried the key in the ignition now it wont come out and the window has raised so cannot shut the door . I know there is an ememgency release cable but cannot remember which side it is on behind the front wheel also the locking wheel key is in the front so no way of taking off the front wheel ...any help urgently suggestions rrequired .

Can you pull out the emergency red slider in the fuse box, connect a jump lead to it and the other jump lead to the door hinge? Should then power up bonnet and boot releases.

i did see on the back off the fuse board panel a white book showing that method but it shows an X against using the door hinge so a bit confused ,also is there a method for getting the ignition key out with the dead battery have a long metal rod in the back off the fuse board does it fit in any where

The manual says use the door strap that’s attached to the frame. If you download the ‘Porsche good to know’ app it’s will tell you there.

You'll need to get power restored to get the key out. Are you sure your trickle charger is working?

if you can get the bonnet opened then a heavy duty charger onto the battery (or jump start it)

All ... thanks for the swift response's , managed to get the key removed from the dash by using the long probe supplied in the fuse board back .The bonnet is now open using the emergency method as described in page 190 in the owners manual ,i should really read the instructions properly as after doing the methods shown tried to use the release switch on the floor ,after head scratching read again and its the remote key fob you hold down for 2 sec ..success the bonnet open so proceeded to use the jump leads to start the car fired up first go ...but it now shows a PSM fault and the PASM switch on the dash board is not switching on or off or illuminated ...could it be a fuse ? any way car now runs and is on a trickle charge and will see if it puts enough into the battery over the next few days if not a new battery will be required

You need to re-initialise the steering angle sensor.


Turn wheels to straight-ahead position.

Switch ignition off and then on again twice.

Start engine.

From the straight-ahead position, turn steering wheel approx. 20° to the right, past the straight-ahead position.

Drive the vehicle straight ahead for at least one second at a speed above 4 km/h (2.5 mph).
The fault memory erases itself automatically.
The PSM indicator light in the instrument cluster goes out.

Thanks Richard a fountain of information again...was told about this by a member last night ,thanks VIC .
Patient is still on life support trickle charger showing 3 bar 13.8 waiting till I get 4 bar and stops flashing before i attempt to start up ,have left bonnet on the latch so I can get to the battery don't want to go through all that emergency procedure again . Its the latest LIDL one ULGD5.0 A1 .the only issue is my car is blocked in by a post so cannot drive straight out but recon that wont be a big issue ,will try the method posted .

UPDATE
Spyder now out off intensive care and resting at home on a trickle charge properly set so hopefully has made a full recovery.
The PSM fault cleared its self within a 20yrd drive and all other functions/switches appear to be working now ,a big thanks to all for their input .PCGB forum at is best.

So sorry to read this tale of woe regarding your 987 Spyder lay-up. Good that you have now resolved the problems, thanks to the superb support from the forum contributors. I only wish more emphasis was made of the benefits of joining the forum conversation in Porsche Post mag.

Brain, maybe the lesson here is to drive your Spyder more often. [] Take it for a blast just for fun! Never mind what Greta preaches with her angry face. Go for it!
