1. You don't have to worry about theft
2. No wires
3. No worries about charging / plugging in
4. Optimal position of the unit
5. Integration with the instrumentation so the next instruction is displayed right in front of you
6. Integration with sound system without having to plug anything in
7. Automated dropping of music volume when announcements are made
Plus, I used to use my mobile phone as my satnav but was finding that it wasn't recharging as quickly as it was discharging so over time my phone was, on long trips, running out of juice.
Bearing in mind the software update is just a case of popping a CD-ROM in the drive and waiting a few minutes, I still think £140 is daylight robbery.
If anything, it should be done free as part of the bi-annual service, in the same way the PDK software gets updated.
I can understand a *small* fee for map updates I suppose, but £140 is taking the mick.
Anyway we shall see what Porsche quote and I'll have to weigh up the cost versus the benefit. There are CD-ROMs available on Ebay but that's a dodgier route to take...

BTW, they will need your car for the day as they told me some cars can take several hours to upload..

In car sat nav is also a good selling point when the time comes...
not in 10 years time though lol also if you buy new at £2.5k you will not get £2.5k back you will get 1k at best back.
So you are still better off not speccing it.
Depends how old the car is, if I were buying a 2 year old car I would want PCM to aid resale again as I only keep my cars a short time
if I were buying a 10 year old GT3 or a CSL or some thing old systems are just better off not having now.
I guess I need to buy the upgrade, but once I have done so I shall definitely put it out there as a torrent.
