Updating Sat Nav 981

There's a long thread on this on boxa.net. Several people, including myself, have now used satnavishop.co.uk with success. I left the engine running but most others have now used Richard's approach of connecting up a charger and not had any problems.

Package arrived Friday and I did the install yesterday.

The install was faultless.

I decided to leave the engine running for the duration which didn't create any problems.

I also updated the software even though I was on the latest release, just a belt and braces to make sure it matched the maps.

As said previously the discs do self eject, you have to be patient and wait.

In total it took about an hour and a half.

Thanks to all who have contributed, it makes life a lot easier.

Dave I've been contemplating how to update my SatNav and so your success appears to tick the box, couple of questions: - I see satnavi ask for a Parts No. where do you it get from? - You mention a software upgrade too, where did you get this from? Thanks

2015 981

As extra confirmation, l too purchased and fitted this sat nav update for my 12 reg 981 after reading the previous posts.

It took 2 hours, with engine running, not entirely problem free, when it occasionally asked for previous discs to be re entered but if you hold your nerve it eventually works it’s way through the 5 discs and usb.

Really interesting post. I am interested in this upgrade. You have have mentioned about the process of updating, but what are the maps like when installed. Have you noticed any difference? Has it updated the screen views or functions as well or just updated the maps. Thanks.

The cars graphics and saved destinations remain the same, even the annoying voice command!

It’s the map that has changed. More colour, more definition and a recent new road is showing correctly, so appears to be up to date. I can also have different map layouts, 3d views and birds eye view.

It also give me more choice for alternative routes, but that‘s maybe me having just found an option that was already there.

The one thing it doesn’t now appear to do is scroll out further than 1.5miles on the birds eye view, whereupon it goes blank, which is a bit limiting when it has the capacity to scroll to 500 miles!

All in all I’m very happy that its updated a 10 year old sat nav, keeping everything original and for a decent price.

I did the update with disks from satnavishop, and them spent the next 2 weeks in France. Definitely an upgrade both picking up clearly new roads and junctions, but also the junction graphics etc. Still a little dated overall when compared to Google maps or some of the best systems from BMW etc, but now at least the roads are up to date.

Thanks for the information in the original post. Money well spent I think.
