Up North Members - Updated 30/12/16 - Register of Interest

Hello,

My name is Graeme and I live about 10 miles north of Inverness. I got speaking to Steve at Grantown Motormania and thought I'd post a wee note up here to see if there are any fellow northern owners (between Nairn/Inverness and Thurso/Wick) who may want to start a regular meet up or even a quarterly get together since not everyone can always travel to Aberdeen. I work offshore so if people want to set things up monthly I would need an assistant but if it's a semi regular thing I can arrange on here.

If there is genuine interest and something people want I will look to speak with Steve and get it a bit more organised with emails and the like.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome but my initial thoughts are a cars and coffee style somewhere with a good cup of tea/coffee and a large car park.

Now I know it's coming to the end of the year and the classics are going to be off the road but I am home for another 10 days and can always tax the car for another month but if we even get the conversation started can get it up and running for the good weather next year.

Hi Graeme,

not a classic owner, I run a Cayman currently but I'm 'local' to you - 17 miles NW of Inverness. Aberdeen is a little too far for me too, only reason I go is to the OPC there.

Only see a few fellow Porsche drivers up here, mainly seem like tourists. I'm guessing this is why you haven't had too many replies.

I generally have a run out early on Sundays (cliche I know!) but roads are good and quiet, especially in the Summer months when they tend to be clogged with caravans and tourers once the clock gets past 10am! I'm not really one for groups or meet ups, just like driving but if I close enough and the timing was right I'd come along and say hi.

A couple of coffee stops I know of, Tomich Cafe on the A9 (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Tomich,+Invergordon/@57.7090777,-4.1919582,2598m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x488f9b1fac3c5aa9:0xf23923037be8e3ee!8m2!3d57.7090667!4d-4.1831812)

or Tarvie Services on the A835 close to the Rogie Falls (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Tarvie+Services/@57.5925508,-4.6383414,2606m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0xa76581b7e37ccba7!8m2!3d57.5925508!4d-4.6295866)

Plenty of other places, Brodie, any of the Garden Centres in Inverness or there's others out near Loch Ness....

Just some thoughts ;)

Cheers, Colin

Cheers for the replies guys was just a thought that popped up in conversation. I do enjoy a run myself and know the places mentioned above all very good ideas. I was thinking of maybe involving a few others as well as my best mate is a member of northern fords and they get a good turn out. I will give the post a wee bit longer see if there any others and see even if it's a one off to begin with just to say hi would be good to put names to faces.

I would possibly be interested in meeting up at a convenient venue early next year. I live in Nairn.

I am currently Porsche-less having recently sold my CR.

I have a new 718 Cayman S on order, delivery anticipated January 2017. An excuse for a run on the north roads early in the new year would definitely be considered.

Thanks for the replies above, looking to get a register of interest for a meet in Inverness area for 2017 if anyone is up for it?! My initial thoughts are Meet in Inverness Retail Park, run around the black isle and then back to Inverness where we can disperse. Like to say maybe meet for 11:00 - 12:00 then off round the Black Isle stopping somewhere for a bite to eat, happy to book something with a car park etc.

As i said looking to get just a first meet together and then maybe see where we go with making it a more regular thing. I work offshore so pretty flexible with dates have 2nd half of January, first half of February and most of March at home if the weather is favorable.

Just looking for some names of people interested to see if its worthwhile organising anything. I may speak with Steve Rose and see about getting an email together as i am aware that not everyone uses the forum regularly. Welcome all suggestions regarding meeting point and a place to go for a run but will iron that out when we have some interest.

Proposed Route:

This is around 1.5 hrs of driving from leaving to returning to inverness.

Hi Graeme - I'm in Dornoch got a 944 S2 Normally tucked up for winter but would be up for a blast! I'm offshore as well (3/3) but could plan runs for when I'm home. Keep us posted... Cheers Ewan.

Hi Graeme - only just got to hear about the suggested "north group" of Region 2 thanks to email from Steve....... really should check out PCGB Forum more often 😊

I'm some way out at Loch Maree - 60 miles from Inverness - but would be up for an occasional get together particularly if it headed West! If the weather's suitable I'd be able to come in my 911 Carrera CS which is in the garage for most of the Winter or if not so good then it'd be the Macan GTS - nice to have a choice.

Cheers,

Huw

Hi Graeme I'm Inverness based but my 964 is undergoing a rebuild just now but hopefull completed before the summer ends so would be keen to catch up with fellow ' enthusiasts ' for a wee tour .

Cheers . . . Ivor
