Anyone put theirs back on, I took mine off to do the PAS belt and then never bothered putting it back on as it has a motley assortment of bolts and is a pain, am I risking some terrible fate ?
 
I think it's better to put it back on. I had mine off for about a year and experienced front end lift everytime i got past 100mph , putting it back on solved the problem.
 
I believe the racing guys say that they make a real difference to the cooling at speed. Something to do with drawing the hot air out of the bay.
 
Would that be because S2 drivers commonly drive too quickly, trying to compensate for their inferior cars lack of performance in relation to that of turbocharged 944s?
 
In the distant past Ive owned a Turbo and then a 968 and when I moved to the 968, probably because it was virtually new, it seemed faster, less crashy (both M030) and simply better, and it had racing seats...

When I drove a Turbo again, last week and for the first time since the early/mid ninteties, it really did seem to be far quicker in third gear than any 968 Ive ever been in...
 
John is correct, the tray makes a big difference to cooling and avoids loss of BHP due to heat soak especially on Turbos, you'd be surprised how much power gets sapped without the tray.

An awful lot of cars seem to no longer have the under tray, and I think it is fair to say that the lack of it won't cause a *terrible* fate, i.e. make the thing blow up or crumble to pieces in ordinary road use, but it is better to have it than not have it.
 
Oh, I agree! Either that or they think they are going to be taking it off again soon. But it is definitely there for a purpose.
 
Porsche flat floored the Turbo for a reason, if it wasnt needed for aerodynamics they wouldnt have added side skirts, accessible under trays and underbody cover panels.

I`ve not done well over 150 mph indicated without one but have with one and at around 130+ the aerodynamics come into play fully and noticeably 'press' the car onto the road.
