Yes Tom. The 944 Turbo won every race in the Porsche Cup between 1986 and 1990! []
Interesting conversation going on here, just to add to Simon's note, in 1989 there was an article published by the 'Automobile Magazine' in which they interviewed Jochen Freund ( senior project manager Porsche 944). He was asked about the top models within the Porsche fleet and how the powers above still seemed to view the four pots as 'second class citizens'. He agreed that perhaps the 944 was looked down on by certain members of the board( no change there then), but he had great pleasure in listing the top 3 cars in the Porsche fleet. First was the 928S4 due to it's luxury and speed, next was the 911 turbo, described as the old wild ageing mustang of the bunch, a monster and a legend, third was the 944 Turbo. He also concurred that the 944 Turbo was the easiest and fastest car in the Porsche fleet, I'd add to that, that it's still one of the fastest today and with a few mods?.. well those who have modified 944T's know the answer to that. Regarding 968?.. nah not even close to the performance of a 944T although admittedly they handle well.

Well I've just reread the article and no such figures exist in that article, not surprising as it didn't cover the 944S. However I did find an article by the same nagazine written 3 years earlier purely covering the 944S. Figures given are 188bhp and top speed of 141 mph, having no experience of this model myself I can't comment on whether it's factual or not, I'm sure someone here with a 944S can inform us what's fact or not.
There is nothing drivel about the 944T's ability, nothing at all.

I just wish there had been a general release version of the 968 turbo. That would have given most 911 turbos of its day plenty to think about. Which actually is probably why it doesn't exist!
They did! No one bought it. Their numbers werent limited by supply, but by demand.
For my part, I believe that the ultimate frontrunner is a 937, not a 944 derivative. The 924 Carrera GTS Club Sport is the 'ultimate' in my experience, although Ive only ever driven a normal Carrera GT.
