Hi there

I need to replace all 4 tyres of my 981 and I wonder if any of you can give me some advice please. I got 2 options for replacing the tyres: Goodyear or Pirelli.
My car currently has Dunlop tyres (not my choice but those were the tyres the car had when I bought it). Dunlop has discontinued that tyre.
My previous Porsche had Bridgestone so I have never used GY or Pirelli before. Is there a big difference? I prefer stability/grip over comfort but not sure if there will be a big difference.

I had Pirelli P Zeros fitted last year to my 987 and had 4 wheel alignment done at the same time which is well worth doing. I find grip and comfort is excellent on these tyres and long lasting too. Another benefit is the Pirelli PCGB scheme which gives you back £100 when buying 4xtyres. Good luck

Hi Andres,

Unfortunately I don’t have any experience of Goodyears on my 987.2 CS, but I was very happy with both the dry and wet road handling of the Asymmetric 2 tyres on my Mk5 Golf GTi.

I presume that you have a Porsche Extended Warranty on your 981 which means that you have to have N-rated tyres? If not then you may want to consider Michelin PS4S tyres which seem to be the current favoured fitment.

Hi Andres,

ensure they are N Rated specific to Porsche, as of course Pirelli make tyres designed for all major car manufacturers. Always check with your local OPC, especially if you have any sort of warranty, not a prob for me as my car was MY 2006! (now sold)

As you will have gathered from the forum, tyres are a very personal and emotive subject!

I'm on my second set of N rated Bridgestoms on my 987.1 2009.

all good.

Doubt in normal use there is much to choose between all the brands, I imagine differences she in spirited use and certainly track days.

Personally, wet weather grip the most important quality to consider.

No experience of Goodyear.

Pirelli are ok for road but do tend to crack after 4 years.

Michelin also decent enough last longer but more expensive.

Bridgestone lasted well but we're hard tyres hard ride.

Continental are a nice comfort tyre.

At the end of the day it's a personal thing tyres including performance and price one wants to pay.
