Lost it on the first hairpin at Prescott Classic on Sunday...the tyres have been fine until the last 6 months or so. At 8 yrs old I reckon the rubber must have hardened (before you ask, no cracks at all!). So they've had it now.

Time for some new tyres. I've been happy with the Bridgestones until recently...best wet grip rating (A) is Dunlop Blue Spot. Last time I asked my tyre supplier the Avons looked good value.

Any other suggestions?
 
Edited to add 452's NLA!, Bridgestone S02's and Continental SC2 are premium N rated tyres and Porsche approved tyres for S2. Uniroyal Rainsport 2's probably fall between the budget and premium tyres. Edd
 
Conti Contact 3's on the 220 no probs and Toyo T1R's on the 220 which grip and seem to wear well, also had Falkens 452 ?and they were also good, i know a guy who swears by Nankang AS1's
 
You could always try advan sport v103 - only problem is they're only available in 225/50 16" - I run these all round on the Turbo and seems to give a nice balance Chris
 
I changed to 17"s for the much bigger choice of tyres. Running Michelin PS3s and they're very good indeed.
 
Another Michelin user here. The grip from the car is unreal :D. More than I thought a 944 was capable of. I have made a number of people tighten their grip on the door handle when heading for bends (either I am that scary a driver or it really does hold the speed very well in the bends ;).
 
I'm running Avon ZV5s on mine, but only because that was what was on the car when I bought it so when I've changed pairs of tyres I've always matched the other axle. Grip seems OK and is nice and progressive when it does let go in the wet. Unfortunately I don't have another point of reference so all I can say is that they're acceptable for my car but I have no idea if there's anything better out there.
 
I run Toyo T1R 16inch tyres on my red car and have done a few track days,not bad for an alrounder tyre.
 
Bridgestone SO2s - very happy in general but will only last so long on the track. The don't deal with a lot of heat well.

Does he drive a 944 or another car? I'm considering trying the Nankang NS-1 on the turbo as I'm a bit fed up replacing the rears every 10k miles at S-02 cost.
 
The nankings will probably only last that long too though. I had those on a BoraTdi. I couldn't fault them for the price and they were far from the worst tyre i've ever had.
 
Agreed. There are far worse tyres out there (15 year old Michelins anyone that are out of shape (on another car I had; the PO put on 4 Michelins from unused spare tyres. Unsurprisingly when I put on some fresh Toyo CF1s the difference was night and day).
 
My 2pth.. Ive had the FK452 Falkens on my car, and found them a good road tyre, BUT,, ive heard that they've just been superceeded with the new 453, and apparently its not a patch on the 452...[:mad:][:mad:][:'(][:'(]
 
I have 452s (16") on the 944 and 453s (18") on my daily driver 3 series. I can't fault either tyre. Does that mean I can't get Falkens for the 944 again? Is ther anything similar they do in 16"?
 
Yes 452 discontinued in about 95% of sizes. They do the ZE912, not as high performance, but more durable. New 453's available in 17' sizes. Edd
 
Slight Hi-Jack, What is the preference tyre for those running the 225/50 and 245/45 on the 7j and 9j 16inch D90's these days? Charlie
 
toyo ti-r are pretty good. I was thinking about trying the 453's on my boxster - needs new tyres all round. will check out a few reviews....
 
I guess I will stick with those then. [:D] I have had them on a few years now - however I have never been overly taken on the look of the sidewall on the rears. Seems a bit stretched for my liking. I would prefer something with a more upright/square sidewall (if that is the word) where the rubber actually sits a touch proud of the rim/lip iyswim? From memory the conti's I had before had a squarer profile. Maybe it is just me though...
