Tyres needed.

Hello,

I'm in need of some tyres for the front.

Looking on the web a company called Blackcircles.com come out very favourable price wise.

Has anyone had a dealings with them before I committ to a purchase?

I'm looking at Falken, Yokohama or Bridgstone all "W" rated.

Advice required, please.

I thought they supplied tyres to your local fitter. On that basis, it can be a lottery as to the service you get.

From memory, although they do not supply a name for the local fitter they do provide the postcode which makes it pretty obvious who they will be using.

TBH I just get my local place to give me a price and then make sure hes cheaper than BC []

I forgot to mention that I have a choice of two local guys who could fit the tyres.

Non of the local companies can match the prices quoted by BC.

I've used them quite a few times over the years for the Focus ST the wife has. Usually a good price too. Delivered to nearest fitting place (or one they suggest - Premier). Otherwise there is the delivery only option.

However, 8 months ago I had a couple of new ones fitted to mine and used Kwik-Fit online as they were slightly cheaper again. Stood over the guy to make sure he used the correct bars and padding on the rim. All good.

I have bought from Kwik Fit in the past. But the fitting was a nightmare, they damaged a rim and wouldn't admit to it.

The online price from Kwik Fit is far away from BC, so thanks for your comments.

It looks like I'll go for BC with a home delivery and use one of my locals to fit them.

At least I know I can trust these guys to do a proper job.

Have you any comments about my choice of tyre make. I currently run P Zero's all round.

BC don't quote for P Zero's.

Ah, the old preferred tyre choice again...

For me I like the Conti Sport Contacts - the compound properties suit any hard driving on the C4 I do without the high wear rate and I know they are rated very good in the wet. Might be too hard a compound for some though (e.g. others better suited for track days).

Yes the prefered choice again.

I don't track my car and never will, and being retired I try to be sensible with the money side of things.

I know you only get what you pay for but I only use the car when the sun shines and from March to October, 3000 miles
is it's lot.

Maybe I go for the Falkens, time will tell.

This company are similar pricewise to BC - some slightly less, some slightly more...............http://my-tyres.co.uk/ If you go for fully fitted you can choose the fitting centre.

Alternatively camskill.co.uk are usually very competitive for delivered only. Just need to factor in £10-20 for fitting locally.

I have switched to Blackcirlces recently. They offer a choice of tyre fitters at varying distances form my home. One I went to I didn't like the service, so I tried a different one, a small local garage where I was able to talk to the fitter about the service. It turned out that they fit tyres for a Ferrari restorer close by, so I reckoned they know what they are doing.

I used to use Micheldever tyres, who were supposed to have a bad reputation at one time, but I expressed to them how important it was to get the balance exactly right & they used a torque wrench for final tightening, I never had any issues. The only reason I don't still use them is that its 50 miles away, but I'd have no reservations about recommending them.

Colin I notice your car has a similar mileage to mine. Have you had any engine rebuilds?

Mine had a top end at 105K.

Colin I notice your car has a similar mileage to mine. Have you had any engine rebuilds?

Mine had a top end at 105K.

My car had a full engine rebuild at 120K, costing £7K plus.

A lot has been said on here about the need for engine rebuilds, but from my point of view I wasn't in the position to take the risk of needing one after I brought it, so I only looked at cars which had had the work done already.

Wise man. I also bought after the top end rebuild.

However I've had mine close on 6 years now and am dreading a bottom end rebuild. 7K is a lot of brass
for retired people. Maybe I sell it, if possible, before it gets to that.

Sorry for the belated response, I don't use the forum daily.

I drive steady as well and would expect to get 9k from the rears, maybe a little more from the front.
The fronts that are knackered now were on the wheels when I bought them so I have no idea as to mileage.

Hope this helps. Just for the record I bought my new tyres from Black Circles. I went for Falkens @ £75 a piece plus delivery.
I had them fitted locally as I have friends in the know.
Excellent service from Black Circles. I would recommend them.
