Tyres for RS?

Toyo's are perhaps the cheapest, despite recent price hikes....
Mich cups may be better overall, but that is down to your pocket and if you think you notice or care about a second a lap somewhere on the right day?
Unless you have run these type of R tyres before, care with respect to running pressures and heat,,,if you run them under inflated for your 1000 or so road miles, you could do more damage than driving on track!
In case this develops into a poll,
Currently on Toyo....may try Dunlop Dz03 next if competitive on price.
For me if I find a set of any of these at a decent price I will buy the cheapest rather than kid myself about potential lap times.
I have yet to try these Dz03 which replaced the 02, having spoken to users on trackdays and read internet reviews, the comments have been nothing but favourable.
One disadvantage to the Dunlop is that there appear to be less outlets supplying them, so toyos, may be cheaper or at least easier to get hold of.

Dunlops are noisy on long runs,toyos even worse.
F-225 x 40 x18
R-265 x 35 x 18
Have a look though, you may have 235 on front for dunlop,,,on some tyres you can go to 285 on the rear,,,depends on suspension set up, clearance and stiffness of sidewall..
I have 225/265 combo of toyos 888 and they have been fine.
PaulH can probably tell you about any sizing anomalies on the Khumos.

Paul H, can you still get the original P Zeros N4s (265/30 or 35s ??) if so from where? How important is N4 to "originality" do you think? I am reluctant to mix brands front and rear.

I would not have a clue about what tyres are still available as in pirrelli,the khumo would be great on the IOM.
Never mix tyres,N rating unimportant.
235 works fine on the fronts with a 285 rear,even ok with the dunlops 235 front and 265 rear.

Varying front and rear sizes is something I suggest you think about in conjunction with the overall balance of your car and what you like.
I'd also say change 1 thing at once and then test so you feel what effect the change has. i.e. geo/bars/tyre pressure.
The other thing to look at if say you find lots of understeer with say 225s is consider if you might look at how you turn in for instance.
Certainly I find on old 911s a sharper turn in rather than perhaps lazier/smoother helps kill initital understeer?

Is there more room inn the 993 arch than in the 964 ?

The 235 and 265 dunlops worked very well hillclibing and sprinting,some fitted 245 on the front with a 285 rear in other makes, which never worked that well.Important to not overtyre the front.
I have used all the tyres,the khumo came out tops for hillclimbing and sprinting ,wet and dry,but this was the med compound all round.As regarding the question/post put the hard compound on the rear and they will last a fair time and not overheat to quickly.Big difference between what's good for driving to the ring and around the ring,to going round and round brands indy for example.

Paul H, to be clear I'll go for:
F- 225 x 40 'medium' compound
R- 265 x 35 'hard' compound
Are you suggesting hard rear as they will last longer...if not worried about quicker wear should I go for medium rear for better grip, or is it a handling/balance issue?
