Turbo KLR/ECU

Is the KLR and ECU the same thing, I keep hearing about KLR and ECU when talking about the turbos or are these two different items for different functions. Thanks

The KLR is an additional computer to the DME/ECU (same thing). It does boost control, knock protection and boost gauge control for the turbo charged 944's.

Yes if you are going to turbo charge you S (?). If you are planning to do it, you also need to change to 951 flywheel & clutch package, since 951's older style Motrnoic uses different style triggering than 944 S' "modern" 60-2 teeth triggering. You also need to change to 951 starter, because 16V one does not work with 951 components. Also 951 engine's wiring loom should be available and few other things as well.

Id strongly advise against buying an engine and then trying to source all of the other parts! Buy a complete car and transfer everything over - itll be FAR cheaper and FAR easier.

Hi,

Yes I am looking at transplanting a turbo engine into my 944S. At the moment I have the following parts from a turbo.

.Engine, intercooler, radiator, pipes etc..
.Flywheel and clutch
.ECU/DME with wiring loom
.KLR - (no loom yet need to source)
.Torque tube and LSD gear box from turbo
.Exhaust, manifold
.ARBS
.MO30 Calipers (no plate lift) and disks

I think I need the following
.Hubs for the m030 calipers to fit
.KLR wiring loom

I also have a spare M60/24 Garret turbo (think that's the model) and intercooler and some boost kit that was a kit from Lindsey racing I believe, but I want to make it standard for now. I will remove the air-conditioner as it isn't really necessary. I will retain my Gaz gold pro coil overs as they work really well.

My main concerns is the KLR and my limited knowledge of putting it back together as it was already stripped. Any advice welcome, I know it the standard answer is just buy a turbo but my car is in such good condition no rust etc.. and I love the front bumper look compared to the turbo/s2.

How are you planning to get air to the intercooler?
check out masher's thread - and his issues with intercooler efficiency in a turbo transplant.

I will fit the intercooler under the nose panel same as the turbo, mine is just bolted on not weld like the older cars so should be straight forward.
