Turbo engine oil?

I'd used Millers CFS for years, before they changed it to Nanodrive. But I seem to recall PSH being unimpressed with the Nanodrive. So I'm looking for a synthetic oil around 10w50 with good levels of ZDDP, that ideally doesn't cost £90 + for 7 litres. Any oil suggestions?

Oil threads are always interesting.

I've been watching an oil expert on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@themotoroilgeek), general consensus is to steer clear of oils with larger viscosity ranges as they are less stable and can quickly sheer.

Most 944 folks recommend the Valvoline VR1 Racing 20W50 which is what I'm using, also a favourite oil of the guy above.

Liquimoly make a similar one but I'd stick with Valvoline, unless you want to sell a kidney and buy some exotic ester-based oil from Silkolene or Motul.

At the end of the day use a good oil and change it regularly, no need to overthink it.
 
:p I read all the oil threads years ago, which is why I stuck with the triple ester Millers CFS for over 15 years. But what I used to pay around £60 for is more like £90 now. I've got a Halfords trade card but even their mystery synthetic is over £50. Isn't the VR1 a mineral oil, I'm not sure a BB turbocharger would like it. And perhaps a 20w50 might not flow well from cold in our winters.

I've been using Total Quartz Racing fully synthetic 10w/50 for years. I have zero clue about ZDDP content. I'm 19k miles into a rebuild and have changed the oil 3 times now and it stays a good golden colour for ages and my oil pressures are great, even past the 6k miles recommended change interval my oil is a good colour and the oil pressures exact same as the day it was changed.

The best part is that you can still get 10 litres for £65 on ebay. It was about £50 for 10 litres ten years ago so nobody pulling your pants down on the price.

Actually just checked, £77 now (£72 with coupon code), must be due to American bombs...........

 
It's quiet on here now, perhaps younger 944 fans would rather read some of the uninformed guff on Facebook. Anyway it's around £82 for 7 litres of the Millers triple ester, with good levels of ZDDP. Edit to add I checked the ZDDP content in the Quartz Racing oil and apparently it's around 1200. And £73 for 10 litres, so I ordered the Quartz oil.
