you'd have thought that it would be both cheaper and easier to put a spring around that, in the traditional manner. It does look like Porsche could have made it a lot simpler. I wonder why they chose the arrangement they did?
It's cheaper to design and produce in great numbers a trailing arm assembly than a proper multilink axle with shock/spring assemblies. Remember this layout was carried over the 924, which was supposed to be the "cheap" entry level model.
The rear axle and the torque tube are actually the same as the non-turbo 944, but without them this nice picture would look a bit odd. [
