Turbo chips wanted

Well, it didn't take long for the engine modding bug to bite ;)

Picked up a Lindsey Racing dual port wastegate, MBC and 3 bar FPR from another member on here while I was on a city break with the family in his hometown :)

I spoke to Jon Mitchell last week about chips and was set to buy some from him for a "level 1" upgrade but as I've now got all the "level 2" bits it would make sense to buy some chips that were optimised with the lindsey parts so will possibly go for the Promax ones.

However, if anyone has a set of chips for sale then I'd be interested irrespective of which vendor they're from - bank account has taken a bit of a 944 shaped kicking this year already.

Rob,
I will be selling my siemens deka 55 injectors and promax chip in the next couple of months when I order the M tune from the states. How soon are you wanting it?

Looking forward to the "what headgasket should I use?" post in 6 months time [;)]

I don't think you've got anything "Lindsey" specific there.. a DPW will work at whatever boost pressure you set. No reason that Promax chips would be better (or worse) than JMG.

of course what you really want is to get rid of that AFM... [:D]

Ed - head gasket was replaced 18 months ago ;)

Sandy - not sure who this "Rob" fella is!

I've had a PM already but will buy whatever I get offered first.

So you already know which one you'll need next time [:D]

I blew mine twice in my turbo in three years, the second time with DPW/MAF on a very hot day at Cadwell Park. Lengthy sessions, high temps & I spun & stalled the car. Instantly the coolant temp shot up & by the time I got going again, the damage was done. The car was still driveable, but the coolant would overheat when I booted it.

Mind you, it was much faster with a DPW holding 1 bar vs a boost enhancer/std wastegate [:D]

I'd really advise against things like those Wills rings because they really do seal incredibly well and it means your pistons will melt first. My 3.2L had rings like those and when I had problems it killed a piston and cost another £6k to rebuild after an 18 month wait for the manufacturer to do another run of custom 108mm pistons.

Ideally you want the headgasket to blow first like a safety valve, much cheaper in the long run.

I'm currently borrowing a Turbo with the Promax L2 kit and chips and it goes like a rocket [8D] It's all the extra performance that most of us will ever need, and is safe [:)]

Dave,
Sorry, was emailing someone at work called Rob at the same time and got mixed up.TFI Friday. :)

Agree with Ed, if your thinking of chips, why dont you just get a M Tune kit, or you could maybe look into getting a link G4 Stand alone ecu. But then, maybe you could look at a stroked engine, then you could get a bigger turbo and to help it breath better you could get a 4" exhaust and high lift cam. I love the 944 disease. I cant stop buying stuff..... After going off doing a 3.0 and selling all the stuff, I am now looking at it again, wish I could just settle for what I have.

Sage words, which I will try to ingest this time. I think Ive suggested Wills rings before and IIm sure that you replied in a similar manner. It seems quite familiar now... [:D]

Just think how fast I'd be with an oil catch can ;)

[:D] forgot all about that...

I am planning some car fettling at the weekend so will try & have a dig around in the garage - I know it's there somewhere..

Isnt there a sound argument for not having a VTA breathing system on a Turbo? I thought that Id read that it caused them to use a lot of oil?

Yes - but easy enough to plumb the catch can back into the intake. All you're doing is putting it in line into the hose that vents from the crankcase AOS?).
