What are the options?

Iv read a lot and not really got a great understanding off it all. I phoned Jmg about month and half ago still awaiting a call back. I understand Jon not very well and Iv still not got the car back 2 test out the last bunch off upgrades, due to some sill work.

But Iv just been offered a kkk27 £300 delivered

Specs
This was built with a brand new turbo with ported compressor shroud, it has had a Ar.58 exhaust housing fitted for quick spool and the turbine blades cut back and the re balanced. It is also journal bearing.
The wheel sizes are.
Compressor wheel:
Inducer 55.72
Exducer 82.43

Turbine:
Inducer 60.64
Exducer 69.82

Only thing is hot side is t3 fittment is this the mount to exhulst

Iv got a 3" fab speed down pipe to fit, just waiting on 3" exhulst solution then that will be my lot.

Currently got kkk26/8
80lb injectours
3bar fpr
Dpw
Barks ecu / map
Barks app to mointer and log afr e.c.t so no need for stand alone gauges
Uprated intercooler
Cone filter
Apexi ebc

I don't mind waiting and get a new turbo, really just want 2 do this once. Just thought I would ask

Still 2 fit
Bosch high flow pump
3" fab speed down pipe.

I used to own a 220BHP 944 Turbo and by the time I ended my quest it had 300bhp .
I upgraded the ECU ,I bought a mint original K27 from the US ebay , they are cheaper over there .
Induction K&N kit , Wastegate , Exhuast , fuel lines , new pump , injectors , cooling system .
Spent a fortune and then bent a con rod on over boosting ! Game over !I started a thread that was on the US ebay

Have a look under US 944 Beast now you can see how people lose the plot !

What you need to consider is how strong is the engine on your 944 turbo to take more power ?

That's quite worrying. Not a comman case that Iv heard off very much. 88 car S spec but factory 250bhp so prob dont have forge rods.

Engines just had all new belts seals and hg. Iv got some forged rods sitting in a box. Not much good in the box mind.

Car won't be tracked so shouldn't get heavy abuse. Would like to keep reliability but 1.3 bar on kkk26/8 can't be the best solution

give turbo dynamics a call, I don't know the folk but my 944 has one of their turbos and it works nicely.

the K27 seems popular in the USA, but I don't think its up to the standard of your engine management.

The hot side goes to the down pipe (and crossover pipe of course) and you are right to only do the fabrication there once.......

any plans to wrap the hot pipes, Zircotec coat? (TD can do that too)

can I ask, what rods have you in the box?

keep up the good work

Thanks, I looked a cermaic coating when I thought the port and poilshed mainfold I brought was full mirror poilshed finish. It came a mat black and was told it was heat treated. Not really in key with the colour combo I had in mind but worth while upgrade. Turned out the heat treatment was nothing but a rattal can finsh so I had the mainfold polished. Worked out pretty pricey cause I could off just sent off mine. I brought it 2 save time.

Anyway Iv thought about heat treatment on the turbo but my current engine bay is no where near as hot as my S was ( differnt engine all togther)

I phoned universal turbos as I was told for £250 they rebuild the 26/8 and make it better? But they wanted the turbo infront off them b4 they could quote me any costing or indecation off upgrades. Due to wanting the car back and time frames and space I didn't follow though.

I'm concerned the turbo will be using oil and that oil could be getting in to the combustion chambers creating a deisal engine lol

Iv not even un packaged the box its still taped up but I believe there rearist rods ( forged ) as that what they where sold to me as.

So is this kkk27 turbo worth thinking about ?

bad luck with the aerosol con men.......

also with Universal, I would expect a steer as to spool / airflow volume / cost - with options on bearings / seals / coatings over the phone from a decent Technical sales support.

I'm going to say "call TD" again, the K27 (for me) is a good old turbo, it will have West Germany's finest metallurgy, but its a crude bit of design compared to the leading manufacturers of the last 10 years. I don't see it as a suitable companion for your ECU and other hardware, unless you are prepared to accept a bit of Lag (which I would agree you can drive around). Don't think it's an easy install??

Our old 1.5 diesel Golf "ran away" once, that was back in 1982.......scary at the time[8|]

I understand my own engine has those same early forged Rarst rods.

Should I stick with kkk26/8 and get it turned to a hybrid? Or should I get something else? As current turbo will be holding back everything else

Will prob be a while yet, MIT have the car dyno tuned and spend some money on that. But it needs 2 be dyno tuned for the road not for max end figures.

Ceramic coating and wrapping the manifold and downpipe will be greatly beneficial but itll lead to failure. This isnt an issue and if I was talking about an Impreza then Id suggest wrapping without hesitation. The manifolds arent expensive and people are happy to replace them as necessary.

The same cant be said for a 944 though and replacing the manifold and particularly the up pipe, would be a painful experience. Better to lose a little gas temp/speed and spend the money on a more durable component such as the turbine bearing, in my experience/opinion.
