Turbo brake pads

Hi all, anyone bought brake pads recently? Looking for some front pads for my '87 late offset turbo. Did a quick search and came across these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINTEX-FRONT-BRAKE-PADS-PORSCHE-944-951-TURBO-2-5-85-88-MDB1456-/330615045632?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4cfa313e00

Want something reasonably priced but these almost seem too cheap! Anyone used them? Or can you reccomend someone from forum perhaps?

Thanks

Craig

I have the ebay mintex ones on mine. If you are just on normal road use then these pads are your friends. I wouldn't put them anywhere near a track though. They don't come with the anti squeal shims but I haven't ever found that a problem and never had any squeal. A good dollop of copper grease usually does the trick.

Unless you know the provenance/source of the pads is reliable you can be purchasing potential copies - you drive a 150mph car - cheap oil, filters etc you can get away with but not worth the risk with pads.

True. Counterfeit brake pads are a plague and you need to be very sure that the supply chain your are buying from is 100% bullet-proof.

And the feeback for that ebay seller points towards copies.

To be honest I bought a set of fronts from Promax only a couple of weeks ago (for not a lot more cash) and always good advice from Andy and pads turned up the next day, no point in messing about for an extra few quid!

I once bought some black diamonds for my alfa on eBay and im sure they were copies. The seller seemed authentc with lots of feedback, but the pads truly were terrible. Lots of fade, the wore out quickly and the inital bite was poor and you needed to put lots of pressure on the pedal to stop.

I've just put minted on the back of mine with copper slip on them and they squeal for Britain!! We've got them on my Disco 2 as well and did the same but sorted them selves out after 10,000 miles or so but was embarrassing to be in the car pulling up at lights in town etc...
Cheers
Tim
I'm never fitting them again! Just go for green stuff or red stuff EBC.

NEVER use EBC pads! Id sooner use the soles of my shoes, Fred Flintstone style than fit those awful pads to my car or motorcycle.

Just go for green stuff

NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO[:(]

Dont, the new compound is rubbish in my view (and that of other car enthusiasts, forums and my son and his friends) - it used to be ok but now isnt if you are an enthusiastic driver

Search for Red Stuff and Yellow stuff in this forum and even they have mixed reviews......................

Try camskill for mintex, although for road use I would just fit oem / textar

I don't like ebc myself...

I also have had bad experiences with EBC on a 944turbo on track - defo would not go back to them for a porsche - Pricey Pagids for track use

I bought a set of these Mintex ones from the very same seller a couple of weeks ago and was also a little apprehensive. I added a note asking them to confirm they had genuine Mintex pads as if not I wasn't interested (the ad states they may substitute with another brand if out of stock - one of which was APEC whose pads I've heard horror stories about!)

Anyway they rang me back a couple of hours after placing the order and confirmed they had the Mintex pads in stock. I asked if they were genuine and was assured they were.

They arrived next day in Mintex branded boxes and appeared genuine. Rear pads fitted a week or so ago and all good so far, no squeal, pedal feel better and worked great during 250 miles in The Lakes this weekend!

So all good (so far!) YMMV. [:D]

I've got brand new EBC discs and EBC red stuff pads on the front of mine and they've beded in nicely and are working really well!
New mintex pads and lightly worn discs on the rear and they squeal constantly!
The brakes feel 200% better than before so all pads are obviously working nicely but the squeal is really annoying. Have fitted new pin kits and stripped and cleaned the calipers.
I don't do track days but red stuff pads are working really well on the road. And the EBC disc cost a little more but I thought as they were made in Britian that would be my donation to British industry.
