Turbo brake caliper refurb? Or not...

It's time for new rear discs, and booked in to Promax next month. The discs and pads have been on for the 7 years I've owned it at least and probably much longer. The thing I'm wondering about is how far to take the servicing of the calipers whilst they are off. There is no evidence that they do not work well. The pads have gradually worn down evenly during my ownership and it has been on numerous track days without any signs of problems.

Option1: Let proxmax sort out the presumably inevitable plate lift - hoping there are no complications (I think the bad senario is the plate screws shearing?) - and put them back.

Option2: Arrange for a refurbishment whilst it is with them (it will probably be there for a week - belts and stuff). Most probably this would mean sending them somewhere else, I believe.

Refurb options I have found so far are:

Classicar Automotive
http://www.godspeedbrakes.co.uk/
PorscheCalipers.co.uk
http://www.biggred.co.uk/

Costs seem to vary by a factor of 2 (£180 to ~£300 for the pair) depending on the level of refurb (e.g. new pistons).

I'd welcome opinions on this. Option 1 should be cheaper, perhaps if it doesn't seem to be broken it ain't worth fixing, but perhaps given I will certainly be taking this on the track again, that's a very false economy? Does anybody have any experience of using these or any other companies to refurb brakes?

I would go for option 1 with Promax. They are a very honest establishment and if they honestly think they don't need doing then they won't. I asked them to refurb all of mine at this years service and after inspection they talked me out of the rears saying they were fine. Cost was 2.75 hours labour, so £212 inc vat. Brakes now feel AWESOME once more [8D]

A quick pic of mine.

They do look lovely. So this is a clean up, new seals, plate lift sorting and a paint then? As far as I could tell from their web site they do not replace the pistons. Is that right? My worry would be that they might leave worn pistons in. After all, they are 25 years old!

Well the first thing that will happen is they'll take them off and inspect them. So I guess if they come back and say everything looks good then that might be the best option. But it's useful to have the other options scoped out in case they come back and tell me they look shocking.

I've always been very impressed with Promax. True professionals.

I had new pistons, fluid seals, dust seals, powder coating and the new bleed nipples. My plates were in good condition so I just cleaned them up and bought new screws for them.

Sorry to labor the point - but what did they do with your front calipers?
