Transmission Emergency Run

Hi

I bought my 09 PDK Cayman a year ago and from the word go I got this error coming up every couple of weeks or so. Turning the engine off and on has always sorted the issue out for the rest of that journey. I've taken the car in to Cambs OPC for this to be looked at a couple of times and each time it's been plugged into the computer and they've done a software update. However, this doesn't seem to have made any difference and in the last few weeks after being fairly stable, it seems to be happening slightly more often now, on one occasion happening twice in one journey. Obviously I can take this in again, but I'm getting the impression that they don't really know what to do with it. I was wondering if any of you guys have had this and whether you know a solution?

It might be useful to check your battery/charging circuit - they're having to work harder in this colder weather - and also worth considering a battery conditioner. Good luck. Jeff
 
Thanks for that Jeff. In fact I do have a CTEK charger, the highest one, which I do use every few weeks just to make sure the battery is topped up. I'm not sure it makes a difference though as it error'd it the first trip after charge the other day. Also it doesn't seem to make a difference whether I've been doing long trips which would help charge the battery, or short trips. I think the issue happens in cycles, often for several weeks then hardly at all for several weeks. Maybe it is linked with the general temperature over the seasons.
 
Intermittent electrical problems are always a nightmare Alex. Realistically, I think that the only way you're going to resolve the problem is to have a diagnostic system (PIWIS or Durametric) plugged in permanently to track the fault when it happens. That means leaving it with the local "Stealership" to see if they can reproduce the problem or, perhaps, finding a local PCGB member with a system that he could lend you for a period. From what you say, it hasn't stopped you using the car but it's annoying just the same. Hope you find a solution soon. Jeff
