Trailers again advice required

chaps, i am about to go ahead and order a new trailer. Having spent some time looking a second had ones that all looked a little dubious! My one question is: having trawled the internet for info it looks like i should be able to get away with a 4m x 1.85 bed l x w . I have seen one internet thread that suggests this is possible (but it's an american site with an american trailer !). Can someone confirm this will work?
Obviously the 964 is bang on the bed size with a small amount of overhang possible front and rear the track being smaller of course. The easy option would be to go for a larger trailer but they are just outside what i was planning on spending.
So does anyone else tow with a 4m bed size trailer ? It's a brian james i am looking at, though i may also look into the ifor williams version which is practically the same dimensions and fractionally cheaper.
 
Dont do it! Trust me, I've towed with a decent brain james trailer that will just take a 964, it was horrible. First, I feared getting rear ended, second and more importantly, it handled like a pig, seriously limited my towing speed. Thirdly, I scraped the wheels putting it on. Since then I've towed with a larger brian james and you forget its there.

Mel knows all there is worth knowing about towing, but my advice would be spend the money get the bigger trailer. Its the better option. Oh, also dont underestimate the value of captive ramps in the new BJ trailers. The number of people I know that have lost trailer ramps, then cant easily get the car off at circuit.......
 
Was that at Spa where you literally had to shoe-horn the car on ?

One other suggestion, if you can get a tilting bed trailer they are much easier to load, and no ramps to lose.

The only other choice is covered or not. I did store one of my cars on a covered trailer for a long time !! Like an extra garage ..

 
Thanks Hugh. I have stepped back from buying one now ! Will have to give it a bit more thought. I have looked at a few tilt beds Bigger size too. I have so far been put off by the age of the ones i have looked at. Have to wait for the right one at the right money.
 
5m bed x 6'3" wide open space min. tiltbed is the way to go.

Caution the used ones, check bearings and operation of over-run brakes -also tracking -axles get bent and first sign of this is tyre wear and at £400 a pop from BJ not cheap!!
 
I have the same transporter as Mel. It's perfect. No ramps. Single-hand operation. Flat bed - so no gaps to fall through and you can transport motorbikes, cement-mixers, freezers - you name it.

I recommend a BJ [;)]
