tracking and geomytery

I wonder if anyone could advise me on how often I should get my tracking and geomytery checked on my 993 (1997). I took my car in for its 48K service to find one of the front tyres had worn considerable on the inner edge, bit disappointing as they have only covered 6000 miles. The garage advises me it was due to geomyerty or tracking. Also I have vibration on braking and was advised it was the discs and that they could be skimmed but I was wondering if it could be due to tyre. would appreciate any comments or suggestions thanks.

Geometry -for road cars at least once very two years.

Your garage should be able to advize on this.

Discs can be skimmed, provided wear is within guideline parameters.

I reckon checking the alignment once a year or so would be ideal but if you hit a kerb or a pot hole its probably worth doing sooner rather than later since the cars seem so prone to going out of shape in this area.

I'm sure the alignment can cause all sorts of odd traits but I had corrosion on the break disks which gave a bit of vibration and much reduced efficiency but having seen the results of a cracked (and later skimmed) disk shattering on another car I'd go for replacements every time.

When you are driving on a straight, dry road (such as a motorway) and you have to keep making very tiny adjustments to the steering wheel rather than just holding the wheel steady, get the tracking / geometry checked.

When I bought my car it went back three times in less than 2 months because the set up wasn't correct.

When all is aligned perfectly, the car will drive like a dream - slightly off and it's just not the same.
