Tracking/Alignment Options - North West

Had an alignment check today (Cayman GTS) and both toe and castor are out. I wasn't impressed by the skill set so looking at other options in the North West to have it adjusted.

I know Center Gravity have a good reputation but its quite a trek, so any thoughts re someone in the North West would be appreciated

Unfortunately not in my region Mike, but you could try Ninemeister in Warrington who offer an alignment service. I seem to recall Twinfan (?) recommending them?

Ninemeister did mine. Speak to Peter and mention you're a PCGB member. IIRC it's about £150 for a full 4 wheel geo. Not as advanced as Centre Gravity but I've had no issues.

Nice one, as Jeff says I've used 9m for several years now. If you know what settings you want just let them know as you book in, otherwise let them do what they recommend.

If you want pointers on settings to go for just ask, Dan has a GTS 4.0 like yourself and I have a 718 GT4. Both of us had Caymans prior to our current cars, plus there are a bunch of folk on here (including Dan and Jeff) who know these cars in depth.

Thanks - would definitely be interested in any views on what the suggested settings would be for toe, camber, etc.

GTS 4.0 (2022) with the -10mm option (ie 10mm higher than standard !!) - just road use, no track

Just tell the chaps what you're after and what roads you drive, they'll do the rest.

Nice thing is you can watch them do it for you if you ask nicely. A good opportunity for you to take some photos of the underside of your car if that's your thing.

My own preference is have 0deg toe at the front and the Porsche maximum recommended toe-in at the rear. This gives a neutral steering front and the rear toe gives stability in heavy braking. I would also max out the camber all round with a general rule of thumb of having 0.5deg more camber on the front than the rear, if settings allow.

As Dan says though, just tell them you want a fast road setting and they can do the rest if you don't have a specific setting in mind.

They're expensive though, don't give you a print out or anything that tells what your settings are, and they're not Porsche experts when it comes to replacing parts (if you get them to do this for you) e.g. torque settings, correct bolt use etc.

Having said that, I do know people who are happy with their setups.

They have just bought a 718GT4 though as a development car, so this can only be a good thing.

it's a GTS get it all oem and then see if you want to make it more focused, no point adding race cars setups if you like how the cars drives now. Too many people have fast road geo's for no reason.
I paid £108 inc VAT to set up my GTS.
I would not run zero toe on the front either for a road car, under brakes that will toe out a little which on a road car is daft. Plus on a cold day zero toe don;t get heat into your tyres so will under steer more due to lack of heat build up.
also don't max out the rear cambers like some one posted, again you will just wear inners in 7k miles !

I would go full oem and only tweak the front top mounts to give a little more camber but only if you feel you are driving fast and the cars under steering. oem is great for 99% people, and give the most Mpg and longest tyre life.

Don't pay £300/400 for a road car setup and don't copy peoples track cars geo's you will ruin it.

Just to add that Ninemeister don't give PCGB discount - in their words "you have to go to a Porsche Centre to get the club discount"

I paid £108 inc VAT. any one paying more for a car with fixed LCA and zero caster adjustment is just paying Porsche TAX.
Goto europe hour rates are far far cheaper than UK rates on Porsche stuff..

I would never goto a place which keeps the setting from you. I have not heard good things about them on the grape fine. but having not been that's hard to back up, I would not goto any place who won't tell you what you have though.
