Trackday insurance

Is it possible to get just trackday insurance? I'm currently with Direct Line on a standard fully comp policy and recently enquired about the possibility of trackday cover. After explaining to the grunt on the phone what a trackday actually was he enquired with his boss and told me Direct Line cannot offer trackday insurance (not really surprised). I'm planning on taking part in a few trackdays this year so could do with some insurance.

Heritage will insure your car for PCGB track days and its included [;)]

Normally track day insurance means you need 1) to do loads of track days to benefit which is expensive 2) pay per track day, which is expensive.

Try HIC (now part of Adrian Flux)

Unlimited trackdays -£500 excess (might be more if you have limited trackday experience)

It cost me about GBP 100 on top of their usual cover premium - they are happy with modified cars as well

A Manning cover all Association of Track Day Organisers (ATDO) and ARDS events (this includes Porsche Club organised ones).

`kin `ell [8D] Its certainly got cheaper over the years.

6/7 years ago it was ridiculously expensive.

Note to myself....................I must ring around when my insurance is due [;)]

I've used www.moris.co.uk before for trackday only insurance on a Clio 182. Worked out at around £100 per day with a £1000 excess for someone that has done quite a few trackdays, might be more for a novice. Could not have risked a £10000 car without it. One reason why I am about to start tracking a £1500 944 as I obviously won't have to worry about insurance.

"I obviously won't have to worry about insurance. ".

Surely your not just insuring yourself + your car , BUT maybee somebody else that you "may" run into aswell....It does happen....

Always assumed that if someone hit me during a trackday I would not be able to claim against them as you could on the road, nor could they against me. The sort of single day cover I used to take out covered damage to my own car but don't think it covered damage I might cause to someone elses.
I have never seen 2 cars collide in around 30 trackdays, although it must happen.
Personally, I can justify spending £150ish on a trackday but if I have to insure the car as well it starts to look like rather an expensive day out.

I've never bothered with trackday insurance either, and my understanding was the same i.e. there is no third party element to it it just covers your own car.

Well if its only my car I'm covering I wont bother either! Especially since I can't get trackday insurance!

It isn't cheap - and there's not a lot to hit at Silverstone - possibly apart from the new pit wall

you could start with

MORIS
Competition Car Insurance
REIS

I think they all do first party single day cover. Excesses are high (as are the premiums).

Some insurers bundle in trackday cover with your main policy

I don't bother - I think I would only ever claim for a total loss, which is not very likely, and in any case would probably leave me with a decent pile of bits to flog, and an intact NCB.

Who are you insured with? I know Classicline will include club organised days and some other reputable organisers at no extra charge. You just need to inform them in advance and they send you a special track cover note for that day and circuit.

Plus, with Classicline, if it's not a "recognised" car club or similar trackday, they will still give you insurance for the day for about £50 - but remember your excess that day is £1k!
